【March 7th cosplay】Honkai: Star Rail, Discussing Costume and Photoshoot Details - Image 1

For this March 7th cosplay from Honkai: Star Rail, the primary focus was placed on costume color contrast and textural presentation. The red coat stands out vividly in the frame, worn over a dark fitted vest with golden cloud patterns, paired with a brown short skirt below, and an accentuating wide blue sash with pink floral ornaments at the waist. To match the character setting, blue colored contact lenses were paired with a pink-and-gold wig styled into twin buns.

Since this was an indoor Studio shoot, warm-toned lighting was chosen intentionally to harmonize the skin tones with the red garment. The jacquard white stockings showcased in the photos are a key highlight of this styling. To bring out their delicate details and translucency, softboxes were used during the shoot to avoid washed-out specular glare from harsh direct light, rendering the texture of the stockings much more naturally for this White stockings cosplay. The leg pose adopted a cross-legged sitting posture, which, along with black shoes featuring gold caps and purple tassels, elongated the leg lines gracefully. The folding fan held beside the face framed facial contours, while the sword resting on the left side of the frame balanced the composition.

The set design also took significant thought, incorporating wooden screens, white drapery, lanterns, a tray with grapes, and a bamboo basket filled with flowers to build a vintage and aesthetic atmosphere. Because the sleeves of the red coat are relatively wide, holding the fan required careful angle control to avoid obscuring the face; after several trials, this final composition was selected as the most suitable.

Regarding makeup, the eye makeup was deepened to complement the blue pupils, making the expression appear more vibrant and lively on camera. White stockings easily expose flaws during shoots, but warm diffuse light smoothed and flattered the leg contours. In terms of costume fabric, the red parts used a satin-like material, with the skirt cut to move naturally with bodily poses. Although the prop sword looks exquisite, it carries noticeable weight, requiring conscious balance while staying natural.

Overall, considerable effort went into the costume layering and color balance. In the prep phase, iconic elements such as the hair accessories, blue sash, and skirt hem details were faithfully recreated. During post-processing, colors were fine-tuned so the contrast between red, blue, and white felt harmonious to the eyes. As a cosplayer presenting March 7th in this Anime cosplay, I believe fidelity requires not just costume accuracy, but also tuning expressions and movements to the character's lively personality. The above is an objective sharing of insights from this photoshoot.
