For this Touhou Project Alice Margatroid cosplay photoshoot, most of the effort was dedicated to costume styling and prop coordination for these Cosplay photos.
The shooting location was chosen inside a vintage greenhouse surrounded by lush greenery and blooming flowers. The natural light filtering through the wooden arched windows served as an excellent softbox; to match this dreamy fairytale tone, I chose this multi-layered light blue dress. The costume details are exceptionally rich: an off-the-shoulder white lace bodice paired with a light blue skirt, where cascading layers of tulle required meticulous fluffing to achieve the best volume. The dark ribbon at the neckline, as well as the blue blossoms and pearl chains on the headpiece, were key to elevating the overall delicate elegance. To capture the atmosphere of the character setting, I specifically prepared a dark brown rectangular gift box as a prop, wrapped with red-and-gold cross ribbons and accented with star-and-moon metallic charms; holding it felt substantial and gave the composition a clear visual focal point.
In conceiving poses for the shoot, I avoided making overly exaggerated gestures, hoping instead to convey a tranquil, graceful presence. Leaning against the windowsill, fingertips lightly brushing petals, or holding the gift box with both hands while gazing ahead, keeping my body language as relaxed as possible. The photographer excelled at utilizing ambient light and shadow, using blurred foreground blossoms for framing, which not only enriched the spatial depth of the frame but also guided the viewer's focus cleanly onto the character.
For the lower half of the outfit, I wore semi-sheer white Stockings patterned with subtle argyle checks and butterfly appliques, paired with a garter ring adorned with pearl chains, which beautifully flattered my leg lines. On my feet were white block-heeled Mary Janes featuring bow decorations, which not only harmonized with the dress's aesthetic but also ensured comfort throughout the long shoot. When extending my legs by the windowsill, slightly adjusting the angle allowed the pairing of Stockings and shoes to blend seamlessly into the scene, creating a wonderful sense of visual elongation.
Regarding makeup, to complement the blonde curls and blue eyes, the foundation was kept sheer and translucent, with emphasis on defining the eye contours. For lips, a natural soft pink was selected, keeping the overall makeup gentle to avoid harshness disrupting the frame's harmony. The entire shoot was spent continuously adjusting skirt folds, ribbons, and prop placements. Seeing the images rendered under the interplay of light and shadow on the camera monitor, I felt the pre-shoot garment prep and on-site lighting coordination aligned seamlessly. This greenhouse shooting experience was delightful, with the harmony of natural light and flowers adding immense beauty to this Alice Cosplay work.
