The locations chosen for this shoot were an indoor bathtub and a sofa. Although both are indoors, the lighting and mood were entirely distinct. Slipping into this oversized white T-shirt printed with the "OSAKANA" little fish motif and pulling one side off the shoulder instantly brought out that cozy, relaxed at-home vibe. Paired with a golden-brown long straight wig, fluffy ears for a Kemonomimi girl, and a long tail behind me, the overall styling achieved high completeness. The textures of the props and costume appeared very authentic on camera—especially the fluffiness of the tail, which added immense liveliness to the frame when turning around or lying prone.
The shooting process was actually quite a test of physical stamina. Space in the bathtub was limited, requiring me to curl up or drape across the rim while constantly ensuring my body lines didn't look stiff. Xianbei put a lot of thought into the lighting; to accentuate the translucency of my skin, he utilized natural light filtering through the window paired with reflectors for fill light. Zeno provided extensive posing guidance on set—for instance, when hugging a cushion on the sofa, slightly adjusting the placement of my legs made the entire composition look much more relaxed and elongated. On the sofa, we explored cross-legged sitting, side-lying, and kneeling postures. Sunlight streamed through the window onto the grey fabric sofa, casting wonderfully soft light and shadow that made me look thoroughly warm and cozy.
Moving back to the bathtub scene, the white porcelain surface and metallic faucet naturally carried a cool modern edge. To balance this coolness, I tried slipping the off-shoulder T-shirt down slightly to highlight my neck and collarbone lines, while gently twirling my hair with my fingers or making cat-paw gestures. Coordinating the gaze was crucial here, aiming to channel the curious yet playfully coquettish demeanor of a Catgirl cosplay. Wearing an oversized T-shirt actually didn't require overly dramatic gestures; simply stretching my arms and legs naturally showcased overall proportions.
The overall shooting pace was tight, but when transitioning between poses, we actively discussed which angles would better accentuate visual tension—such as using the back of the sofa as an obstruction for framing, or utilizing the lines of the bathtub pipes to guide the viewer's gaze. Kneeling and holding feline postures for extended periods certainly left my knees and legs aching, but reviewing the raw files in camera revealed that genuine micro-expressions and body contours were beautifully preserved amidst the interplay of light and shadow. As a cosplayer who loves exploring diverse styles, this at-home Catgirl cosplay series was a deeply satisfying endeavor. The harmony of costumes, makeup, and props paired with expert on-set guidance transformed a 2D concept into a dimensional, authentic portrayal brimming with everyday life through Anime-style photography.
