This blue-and-white water mirror series consists of six photos, representing one of the most effort-intensive sets I have worked on recently. During pre-production, styling details were polished meticulously—especially the eye makeup, where I specially paired blue-gray contact lenses with subtle shimmering pearl highlights to complement the cool, aloof temperament.
The costume features intricate layering, generously using pleated sheer tulle accented with sequins, layered with deep blue and violet trailing ribbons. To accentuate leg contours, white high heels were paired with golden leg garters and long white gloves.
The shooting venue was meticulously arranged with heavy dark blue drapes and a white crystal chandelier. A reflective film was laid across the floor to produce mirror-like ground reflections, which—paired with surrounding white floral arrangements—instantly established a cool, glamorous ambiance.
In terms of pose choreography, we mainly utilized a blue-violet folding fan and a large umbrella adorned with bird motifs. For the shot seated on a swing holding the umbrella, camera angles and lighting were adjusted repeatedly to balance the center of gravity while naturally showcasing slender leg lines. To convey dynamic motion, a high-powered wind machine was used on set, ensuring the skirt hem and long hair flowed naturally in the breeze without looking stiff.
This shoot actually blended the nuances of multiple characters: the detachment of Kaigetsu cosplay, the poignant beauty of Chang'e, the dignified elegance of Qingyi and Yuechan from Perfect World, and the agile grace of Xishi. Although these characters originate from different works, they share a common aesthetic under the blue-and-white palette. In front of the lens, I had to shift my gaze and posture according to each character's traits—maintaining a more reserved, dignified expression for Qingyi and Yuechan while infusing lively agility for Xishi.
For post-processing, we mainly refined the water reflections and unified the cool-toned color grading. The fabric texture created a strong contrast between highlights and shadows, requiring delicate color grading to preserve sheer fabric translucency and golden metallic highlights. Overall, the synergy with the photographer was seamless, perfectly capturing the ethereal blue-and-white fairy aesthetic.
