For this shoot of Kaigetsu, the scene was set in an indoor reconstructed shallow water environment for a session of waterscape studio photography. Stepping into this shallow water area and putting on the lightweight gauze dress, one can instantly feel that sense of tranquility carrying its own waves from the character. To prepare for this photo set, I did a lot of homework on the makeup and styling. The most attractive part of the look to me was her high hair bun and those blue-and-black uniquely shaped hair accessories; to maintain the stability of the hairpieces, the stylist spent a lot of time on fixing. The makeup specifically emphasized the cyan-blue floral bindi on the forehead and that pair of blue eyes filled with spiritual aura, hoping to capture the character's sense of detachment from the mortal world. The costume utilized a large amount of semi-transparent mesh and lightweight chiffon materials, primarily in blue-cyan, complemented by rainbow-like ribbons and golden thread embellishments, which can form elegant reflections on the water surface while making the overall visuals look full of ethereal charm. In terms of the setting, we integrated elements suitable for a Chinese style character look, placing scrolls, bamboo, and artificial rocks. The wooden-framed paper lantern on the right brought a touch of warm light source to the entire environment, contrasting with the cool-toned light and shadow projected in the water. During the shooting process, we actually encountered some minor troubles. For instance, because the floor was shallow water, to stand stably and strike an elegant barefoot sitting pose required excellent control over the center of gravity; one careless move would wet the skirt hem. Fortunately, the photographer cooperated wonderfully and captured the most natural and relaxed snapshot. In the composition of this cover photo, I chose to sit sideways, extending one hand outward with fingertips slightly flexed. Together with the reflection on the water surface under my feet, it perfectly echoes the dynamic aesthetic of "graceful as a startled swan, supple as a soaring dragon." For post-processing, we avoided excessive skin smoothing or exaggerated color grading, trying our best to preserve the texture of the gauze dress itself while deepening the translucency of the water ripples to make the frame's luster look more natural. When doing cosplay photography for this type of ancient-style Xianxia theme, it is often not just about meticulously restoring the look, but also exploring how to capture that subtle sense of narrative, like "destined to meet but not to stay" or "a heart as pure as ice in a jade vase." This is also why I chose such a quiet, non-boisterous scene to complete this creation, hoping to convey this static beauty to everyone through the lens. In short, this shooting experience was very complete; from the clothing texture and ancient-style scenes to the creation of the overall atmosphere, it achieved the cold elegance and ethereal effect I had anticipated.
