[Diaochan cosplay] Honor of Kings: Convention photos Log

Today's set is a collection of Convention photos taken at a previous comic expo, featuring a specific skin look for Diaochan from Honor of Kings. Speaking of this outfit, the preparation was actually quite time-consuming. The overall costume is predominantly pink and white, with the blue gemstone accent on the bodice and golden patterns at the waist serving as the visual focal points. To recreate that airy weightlessness, semi-sheer pink tulle was selected for the sweeping sleeves. The drape of the wide flowing sleeves was rather difficult to control during on-site Convention photos—a slight breeze would send them fluttering against my face—yet the captured dynamic motion turned out surprisingly natural.

The wig styling was a major highlight. The massive updo bun at the crown required extensive hair padding and extensions, and together with the golden forehead ornament featuring blue tassels and the long golden hairpins on top, it required considerable time to anchor securely so it wouldn't shift after walking just a few steps. For makeup, rather than replicating the heavy stage makeup from the game, I adapted it to harmonize with the convention venue's natural light and indoor overhead lighting. The base makeup remained clean and translucent, with the focus placed on the eye makeup. Wearing lighter-toned contact lenses meant blending the eyeshadow across a slightly wider area than usual, which, paired with crisp eyeliner and false lashes, made my eyes appear more vibrant and animated before the lens. A natural pink shade was applied to the lips to echo the overall pink-and-white wardrobe.

This Diaochan cosplay styling relies heavily on graceful posture and expressive nuance. The pink silk ribbon sash in my hands served as my primary prop for composition and interaction. In convention settings, backdrops are often chaotic, so the photographer used a wide aperture to blur the background, locking visual focus entirely on me. While shooting, I made full use of the floating sash to enhance dynamic flow—such as gently lifting one hand to pinch the hem of the sheer fabric, tilting my body slightly, and gazing toward the camera to evoke lightness and grace. Despite the passing crowds and ambient noise, entering character at the exact moment the shutter clicked required genuine focus.

To tell the truth, wearing this ensemble at a summer convention was stiflingly hot, as three to four layers were worn inside and out to preserve the skirt's volume and drape, not to mention the weighty wig. Yet every time I see how the Convention photos turned out, it feels entirely worthwhile. The blurred hallway and pillars in the background still retain that uniquely lively convention energy.

The retouching direction for these Convention photos focused on preserving natural skin tones and authentic light and shadow without exaggerated visual effects, prioritizing tactile costume textures and real-world presence. Diaochan has numerous outfit variations, each exuding distinct charm; this pink-and-white look leans toward ethereal softness and celestial grace. Every detail—from the metallic armbands to the metallic belt embellishments at the waist—strives to faithfully recreate the original design. Wearing this styling at the convention also gave me the wonderful opportunity to stop and chat with fellow fans about fabric choices and makeup tips. After all, beyond the moment the photos are published, the most enjoyable part of cosplay is meticulously prepping these details and connecting with fellow enthusiasts.
