When shooting this set for the Sparkle cosplay, it coincided with a temperature drop in Guangzhou at night, but as those blue and red neon lights on the street lit up, the overall atmosphere was maxed out instead.

To accurately recreate this look, I spent a long time choosing the wig. To complement my skin tone, I specially tailored a pinkish-purple eye makeup and red contacts, hoping to express the character's agile yet slightly crazed vibe. The red, white, and black color-blocking on the costume, along with the playing card club patterns, layered ruffled hemlines, and the characteristic black gloves and oversized red-and-white paneled glove props, makes the overall visual layering exceptionally rich.

During the shoot, the photographer brought a wide-angle fisheye lens, beautifully stretching the spatial tension by utilizing the metal frame of the telephone booth and the perspective distortion of the streets. For instance, in the shot where I reach my hand out from inside the telephone booth, it uses glass reflections and a highly cyber-feeling blue light to create a striking impact. There's also the high-angle shot holding an umbrella on the crosswalk, where the red umbrella surface serves as a visual anchor amidst the vast, cool-toned night scenery, making it incredibly eye-catching.

Of course, shooting on the streets requires overcoming a bit of social anxiety and the stares of passersby, but whenever we captured a shot with intense compositional tension, I felt all the effort was entirely worth it. Guangzhou's streets during the day are completely different from the night. Combined with the light from streetlamps and signboard lightboxes, the red and white color blocks and black accents on the character were illuminated just perfectly. The bells on the costume emitted a faint sound as I walked around, adding quite a bit of fun to the shoot.

Cosplaying this character was an excellent exercise for my expressiveness. Through this shoot, I also unlocked the concept of using small props (like that big red umbrella) as a foreground in an urban night portrait. I hope the lighting, composition, and character expressions in this set can bring a touch of visual freshness.
