[Evernight Cosplay] A Glance Back Under the Moon in Honkai: Star Rail

When shooting this set of photos for Evernight, the entire team set a tone that required a strong sense of mood at the very beginning of preparation. We hoped to use two completely different scenes to express the mystery and elegance of this character. The first plan utilized thick metal chains and scattered red rose petals, combined with the red ambient light piercing through the dark tones, creating a dramatic tension that felt restrained yet exceptionally free-spirited. The second plan moved to a classic black and white chessboard floor against a huge red curtain behind; this highly symmetrical scene with clashing colors fits the character's inherent composed and sharp temperament much better, fulfilling our goals for this atmospheric photography piece.

In terms of hair and makeup, to fit the look of this character, I tried a cold-toned foundation paired with crimson contact lenses. To make the gaze look deep yet energetic, the eye makeup focused on outlining the eyeliner and used reddish tones for blending. For the lips, I chose a matte and more natural shade to prevent the Cosplay makeup from stealing the visual focus from the intense black, white, and red contrast on the costume. Handling the wig also required a lot of thought; the light pink hairstyle was richly layered in its cut, which could maintain a fluffy volume without appearing too messy in complex scenes. The black cutout butterfly hair accessory on the head was the finishing touch, elevating the exquisiteness of the entire styling to a new level.

The costume has a lot of details, especially the treatment at the stitching of the black and white colors. The off-the-shoulder cutout design paired with loose white sleeves visually provides a playful feel while maintaining the overall sleekness of the garment. The lace-up design and the dark red patchwork on the cuffs are small clever thoughts that only manifest when striking specific poses. Although straightening the clothes during the shoot took a lot of effort to keep them flat, the final presented effect was fully worth it. The combination of chunky red-soled black leather shoes and white short socks not only echoed the primary red-black-white color scheme but also beautifully elongated the overall body proportions during actual standing and sitting positions.

During the actual shooting process, the biggest challenge lay in interacting with the icy and heavy metal chains. Those chains were not only heavy but also easily caught on the details of the fabric, so when making every movement, I needed to find a good center of gravity to prevent accidental tugging. When we moved to the chessboard scene, although the ground became flat, moving between the uneven gaps in the chunky red-soled shoes still required core strength to maintain body stability. The photographer is highly skilled at capturing emotions; in the chain scene, he guided me to showcase a sense of breaking through constraints and fierce sharpness, while in front of the chessboard, he guided me to slow down my movements, appearing more elegant and composed.

My pursuit of cosplay is not just about restoring the appearance, but more importantly, about getting close to the soul of that character through costumes, props, and camera language. This shoot was an amazing experience, using different lights and shadows to switch emotions, freezing the character's contradictions and beauty. Thanks to the makeup artist and the photography team for their strict control over details; with their assistance, the character of Evernight could be presented in front of the camera in a more concrete manner. After the final photos came out, I am also re-examining my understanding of the character's temperament; every attempt is a step of growth for this Honkai: Star Rail fan creation.
