[Gilberta Cosplay] Arknights: Endfield, the Messenger's Tactical Archive Time

Sitting on the pure white folding chair in the experimental capsule, the folder in hand seems to have only been flipped halfway, with the screen behind flickering with a faint yellow-green light. When shooting this photo, I was actually a bit dazed by the cool-toned overhead light, but this somewhat harsh lighting perfectly reinforced the texture of the costume, making the entire frame look highly narrative. As the messenger Gilberta, this red and black color scheme tactical uniform is very prominent in its color contrast, providing a strong visual focus for the entire look in the empty and tech-filled room.

In terms of costume details, the neckline design of that black halter top on the upper body is very special, and the semi-transparent black tulle spliced at the shoulders pairs perfectly with the tough tactical buckle straps. It can both express the character's competence and professionalism, while retaining some feminine softness due to the contrast of materials. The black mechanical devices tied to that pair of fluffy brown animal ears are the highlight I am most satisfied with in the entire look. Pressed on the crown of the head, it suppresses a part of the originally overly sweet temperament, adding a lot of technological and grim feel to the character as a kemonomimi girl. For the lower half, paired with over-knee black tights, along with the black leather straps specially designed at the thighs, and those exaggeratingly styled thick-soled tactical boots at the feet, it both maintains the practicality of convenient movement and visually elongates the overall proportions. It's hard to imagine how capable the character would be when running or flipping through files, so I chose a side-sitting posture, holding the gun in one hand and supporting the paper document with the other, striving to showcase a touch of composure and alertness in her working state before the lens.

When taking on this character, I specifically studied her personality. She is a deliverer walking among the complex instructions and information flood of industrial cities, neither a completely cold killer nor an overly sweet eye candy, but a pragmatist weaving through cold machinery and communication towers. To restore this feeling, the photographer and I spent a long time discussing the background composition. We ultimately chose an ordinary white operating table and chair, because this daily yet office-vibe scene instead allows the character's style to stand out more.

Styling the wig was also a major project. This kind of red-brown long wavy hair easily looks messy or dry. Before shooting, I repeatedly combed it to confirm every curve, ensuring the hair strands' luster was natural enough, allowing it to drape naturally and contour the neck and shoulder lines, forming a sharp contrast with the tough black halter top. Additionally, although the handheld prop gun didn't have much real weight, the black matte finish and tech-filled mechanical lines looked exceptionally textured under the cool white light. When actually lifting it, I tried my best to relax my wrist, naturally resting my finger outside the trigger guard instead of gripping it tightly, so as to capture a sense of effortless relaxation. The white paper and black electronic tablet held in the other hand also balanced the weight of the upper and lower parts of the frame in the composition.

Because the shooting time was relatively long, maintaining this cool and valiant sitting pose was actually not easy, especially with these thick-soled tactical boots. Although they look very cool, maintaining the center of gravity truly requires a bit of core strength, otherwise it's easy to lose balance. However, the moment the final frame froze amidst the sound of the shutter, all the hard work became worth it. The final photo's lighting layers are very rich, and the background blur was also handled just right without overshadowing the main subject, completely leaving the visual focus to the character's overall look. This costume and design are indeed very suitable for this character, and I believe it can restore that capable, sharp, yet mysterious messenger image in everyone's heart for this Cosplay photography project.
