Diving straight into the finished photos. Ever since getting the costumes, makeup, and props for this "odd-job agency" setting, I've been brainstorming how to shoot this set. Pink twintails paired with black ear hair accessories and colorful hair clips create a strong, vibrant color clash. The top is a white cropped midriff-baring tee featuring black graphic prints, layered under a cropped black leather jacket with fantastic texture; the white cuff trim and shoulder cutout design give the whole look distinct layers without feeling bulky. The bottom is a pair of black leather micro-shorts trimmed with white fuzzy edges, cinched with a brown studded belt whose metallic studs reflect light beautifully. Most essential is the yellow-green plush doll: its unique stitching and red eyes sit snugly right at the hip, acting as the visual Easter egg of the entire Techwear outfit.
During the shoot, the vintage TV screen played dynamic blue-and-white visuals that echoed the room's moody blue-purple ambient lighting. We struck various poses on the leather sofa. The handgun prop maintained a matte texture and felt solid in hand. In the first shot, holding a leather suitcase while making a peace sign with one hand captures a lively and energetic vibe. Meanwhile, the two shots relaxing on the sofa focus more on conveying the character's lazy yet commanding, all-in-control aura in this Nico cosplay.
This blend of Techwear outfit and street style tests leg presentation the most. The black thigh-high stockings with criss-cross straps, paired with black chunky lace-up boots, visually elongate the leg lines to make them look slender and tall for this Stockings cosplay. The black leather shorts paired with thigh cutout straps add a peek-a-boo design that elevates the overall fashion appeal. Considering the character's temperament in Zenless Zone Zero, I deliberately adjusted my gaze and the breadth of my smile during the shoot to capture that confident, unruly, and slightly playful nuance.
In terms of Cosplay photography, various camera angles were utilized. The close-up shot holding the gun in Photo 3 highlights details of the headwear and makeup. Meanwhile, semi-reclining compositions like Photo 4 focus on showcasing body curves and the tailored cut of the outfit. In post-processing, to preserve authentic realism, we avoided heavy color alterations, mainly fine-tuning shadows and highlights to give the leather jacket's sheen more luster.
Although this outfit looks breezy, the leather material made shooting for extended periods quite warm and stuffy. However, seeing the finished results—especially the fidelity of the plush doll and garment textures—made all the effort worthwhile. In this vintage setting, I wanted to showcase the character's "jack-of-all-trades" resourcefulness, as well as her quick-witted, decisive leadership through varied visual angles. Having done cosplay for so many years, I've always felt that a great work requires not only visual resemblance, but also capturing the character's soul. For characters with such distinct personalities, beyond having the right outfit, that subtle charm in the eyes needs patient exploration. This was a very enjoyable Cosplay photography experience, with seamless teamwork from lighting setups to prop choices. Now that the photos are out, I feel there is still room to expand my expression, and I look forward to presenting even more engaging styles and looks in future shoots.
