For this Dark Gothic style work of Lappland the Decadenza from Arknights, we wanted to create a claustrophobic and oppressive world view right from the planning stage. During the shoot, the focus was placed on replicating the texture of the makeup and wig. The eyeshadow deepened the contour of the lower eyelids, which, paired with the silvery-white short hair and animal ears, allowed a cold detachment that proclaims 'game over' to pierce through her gaze. The outfit is richly layered; the black leather coat has a stiff texture, while the red neckerchief and the exquisite silver wolf head pendant at the chest form the visual focus. Paired with fine chains and black high-top boots, the silhouette and tailoring were repeatedly adjusted. That massive ring-shaped weapon was the difficult part of this shoot, costing a lot of physical strength to transport and position. However, when combined with those vintage oil paintings, mannequin models, and well-placed candles in the scene, all the hard work became well worth it. To align with the character's dangerous yet slightly arrogant temperament, I maintained a cold and detached state throughout the shoot, and the use of smoke effects also made the atmosphere of the entire frame richer and heavier. The photographer's lighting setup was perfectly tailored to the theme of the collection, allowing the illumination to outline the costume's metallic texture and the details of the makeup. Furthermore, during composition, they captured both wide-angle scenes filled with visual tension and close-ups of facial expressions. We specifically arranged many mannequins and candles to create the visual illusion of a medieval dark oil painting, cooperating with a smoke machine to produce a hazy mist effect to reinforce the overall dark undertone. Immersing myself in this Gothic atmosphere under the character's identity this time felt as if I was completely synchronized with Lappland the Decadenza's mental state. Every time I complete such a challenging look, it serves as a technical refinement for myself as a practitioner of Roleplay. From the detailed styling of the wig to the wearing of costume accessories, and finally to the integration of the overall scene, the entire preparation cycle for this set was not short, but the ultimate presentation of toughness and coldness perfectly met expectations for this Cosplay photography project.
