This Iseri Nina Maid outfit photoshoot is finally wrapped up. From tailoring the custom costume to refining the details, the entire preparation phase took around three weeks. As a fan of Girls Band Cry, I had always wanted to explore an alternative, everyday side of Nina. On stage, she always radiates an unyielding, fierce drive, playing guitar in her school uniform or casual street clothes—that raw authenticity is truly moving. When deciding to take on this Maid outfit, I thought to myself: if Nina ever wore a maid uniform, she would definitely never take the meek, docile route; instead, she would carry a hint of wariness and stubborn defiance, all while keeping up a baseline professional customer service smile.
The maid dress follows a classic monochrome black-and-white color scheme. The inner piece is a black long-sleeved dress with white folded cuffs accented by black buttons. Over it sits a white apron with exaggerated ruffle-trimmed shoulder straps, tied at the chest with a black ribbon bow and tailored with a defined cinched waistline. The skirt is delightfully voluminous; to support this silhouette, I layered two petticoats underneath, letting the black hem of the inner skirt peek out beneath. The fabric was chosen with a crisp, structured cotton blend so the ruffles and flare would hold their dimensional shape during movement.
For the wig, I selected a wine-red shoulder-length bob. Nina's hairstyle has distinct layering with slightly flaring ends; the bangs shouldn't be too heavy, needing airy strand separation to look lively and energetic. The colored contacts were light blue to give the gaze a crystal-clear look. Makeup was kept relatively subtle, with eye styling focusing on defined lashes and eyeliner to preserve an everyday casual touch, while keeping the base makeup clean and fresh.
The shoot took place in a studio against a seamless pure white backdrop. The lighting was very bright, severely testing the fabric's tactile quality. The stark contrast between the white apron and the black dress meant that slight exposure missteps would blow out the whites and wash away the fold textures. When designing the lighting scheme, the photographer dedicated a softbox to the front key light while adding a side rim light to outline my silhouette. I often give myself internal character monologues during shoots: when flashing a peace sign, I imagined Nina saying with a proud, slightly cheeky smirk, 'See? Not bad, right?' Letting my other arm hang naturally to rest lightly against the skirt hem helped ground my center of gravity.
For footwear, I paired black platform Mary Janes with white lace ankle socks. Although this styling does not feature obvious stockings, the platform shoes paired with ruffled socks flattered my leg lines beautifully while echoing the vintage flair of the maid outfit. Standing for hours and constantly tweaking poses was demanding; while platform shoes offer stable footing, the soles of my feet definitely ached after prolonged standing. Still, seeing the camera previews made every bit of effort worthwhile. The flare of the flared skirt and that discreet large white bow on the back worked together seamlessly, making me feel that Nina's blend of cuteness and rebellious edge was truly brought to life.
In terms of expression control, I avoided overtly sweet, cutesy tropes, maintaining instead a subtle upturn at the mouth paired with a slightly provocative spark in the eyes. That is my understanding of Iseri Nina: no matter what she wears, at her core she is still that girl screaming her heart out to prove herself. Even in a maid uniform, she never loses that sharp, cutting edge.
For this shoot, I also designed specific poses. For instance, with the raised peace sign, the arm angle couldn't be too high or it would look stiff; keeping it slightly relaxed with a naturally bent wrist looked much more effortless. The fingertips of my other hand curled inward slightly toward the front of the skirt to add dynamic rhythm to the composition. Because the apron straps tie in the back, sitting down to rest required extreme care so the large bow wouldn't get crushed before full-body shots. Although the outfit appears modestly covered, the black-and-white contrast possesses immense visual tension, especially the clean synergy between the black long sleeves and expansive white apron. Pulling off this style requires both accurate wardrobe replication and an upright, confident posture. During breaks, I constantly regulated my breathing and kept my shoulders broad and open, which properly filled out the garments while keeping the shots sharp and spirited. Reviewing the raw files, the detail rendition completely met our envisioned goals—from the ruffled pleats to the texture of the neckline bow, everything was deeply satisfying.
