This photoshoot of Chisato Nishikigi cosplay was primarily aimed at capturing a casual, energetic working routine with Japanese-style flair. To ensure the overall visual texture, we deliberately chose a Japanese garden featuring wooden verandas and shoji screen doors as our location. The natural daylight was crystal clear—especially during the afternoon, when sunlight filtering through foliage and paper doors cast soft, natural depth across the scene.
Outfit-wise, this Japanese-style uniform features bold color blocking. The top is based in vibrant red, accented at the collar by deep blue and light green inner linings. Seeing the design art for the first time, this color palette struck me as visually powerful. To achieve a crisp silhouette, I paid extra attention to smoothing out the collar so the delicate white cord knot rested right over the chest. Cinched around the waist is a white apron with navy ties at the back, while the ties hanging down the front are bright red. This front-to-back color harmony lends rich dimension to the look during movement. For the lower half, a navy long skirt is paired with white split-toe socks and red geta clogs, tying in seamlessly with the top.
For hair and makeup, to capture Chisato's signature features, I wore a blonde bob wig with blunt bangs, pinned with a small red bow clip on the right side. I tailored the eye makeup by intensifying red shadow blending to match the red contacts, giving the eyes a brighter, more spirited look while retaining her bubbly, playful charm.
In terms of props, I carried a dark round metal serving tray. It served as a pivotal item, immediately establishing the café narrative for the photos. In the first shot, I balanced the tray in one hand while resting the index finger of my other hand gently against my cheek, evoking that cheeky demeanor of taking a customer's order. In the second shot, I shifted my weight to one side with a hand on my hip, projecting an air of confident composure. Because kimono sleeves are relatively wide, raising the arm to hold the tray required straightening the fabric folds in advance to prevent the shoulders from looking bulky on camera. Throughout the shoot, I also focused on keeping my posture upright to support the structure of the garment.
The photographer was skilled at framing nuances. To keep the scene from looking flat, we incorporated nearby foliage into the composition. The greenery and a few red blossoms on the right side of the frame echoed the red tones of the outfit, making the whole image more lively. Although shooting outdoors with multiple garment layers required careful steps to avoid stepping on the hem, the entire session went smoothly and the results were thoroughly satisfying. I hope everyone enjoys this photo set brimming with café aromas and Japanese charm.
