This Touhou Project Flandre Scarlet Cosplay photoshoot set has finally come together! To capture the character's unique blend of innocence and eerie, mystical aura, immense thought was poured into everything from preparation to shooting. For the wardrobe, I chose a cream-white Gothic Lolita dress packed with rich details: multi-tiered delicate lace across the bodice and skirt hem, accented with red satin ribbons, bows, and deep-red round buttons, cinched at the waist with a red belt. To make the character traits even more unmistakable, I specially attached elongated wing props adorned with prismatic crystal ornaments on my back, swaying gently with every motion.
The wig was a golden-blonde curly style with blunt straight bangs and curled ringlets on both sides. In terms of makeup, the focus was placed on red colored contact lenses and softly blended reddish eyeshadow at the corners of the eyes, completed with a tiny mole placed at the tip of the nose to evoke an otherworldly, non-human nuance. For headwear, I wore an oversized bonnet lavishly adorned with lace, red frills, and pearl embellishments, which instantly elevated the overall completeness of the styling.
The set design also took considerable care. To match the dark fairy tale ambiance, we sought out an antique study steeped in vintage charm. The background featured massive bookshelves crammed with vintage books, flanked by a dark wooden grandfather clock, as well as classic table lamps and kerosene lanterns exuding antique warmth. The composition was filled with subtle detail props—such as a black cat statue sporting an Egyptian-style collar beside me, and a deep-crimson apple held in hand—all deliberately arranged to heighten the narrative depth of each frame.
During the shoot, the interplay of light and shadow was paramount. The primary key light was warm amber, simulating the flickering blend of desk lamps and candlelight, while purple ambient fill was introduced from specific angles to enrich the scene's color palette. To complement the outfit's styling, I experimented with numerous poses: sitting poised on a vintage leather sofa with legs crossed to showcase the White stockings and deep-red lace-up platform shoes, or leaning back against the bookshelf. To keep the frames engaging, holding the apple in close-ups added playful interactivity, while my gaze was kept as true to the character's persona as possible.
Every time I take on such an intricately detailed cosplay, it feels like an exhilarating challenge. From prop coordination and set dressing to capturing every fine nuance under the lights, everything demands repeated calibration. I truly relish this process of continuously polishing each piece, and I hope these photos successfully convey this vintage, mystique-laden dark fairy tale atmosphere.
