[Jinhsi cosplay] Sharing Behind-the-Scenes of Wuthering Waves Night Photography: Capturing Character Texture in Contrasting Light and Shadow

When I first received this Jinhsi costume, my immediate impression was the striking blend of large white areas and glossy black fabrics. The White stockings feature great texture, opting for a thicker, high-quality fabric. Before the shoot, the photographer and I locked in our theme, revolving primarily around Night photography. Ambient light at night can be notoriously tricky to control: surrounded by warm yellow lanterns, direct shooting makes skin tones appear overly yellow while the white fabric absorbs light. Collaborating closely with the photographer, we experimented with lighting setups—primarily using a cool-toned white fill from the front to guarantee the pristine white of the dress and the reflective sheen of the glossy materials. The outfit contains countless intricate elements, such as the golden scales at the waist and the floating ribbons, which look best when draping naturally in motion. To showcase the visual proportions of the long white stockings and skirt, I chose a slender, upright standing pose, shifting my weight onto one leg to bring out the drape of the garments and accentuate body lines. Opening my right hand outward and flashing a subtle peace sign with my left added a touch of natural playfulness. Environmental elements required extra caution during the shoot; my long hair was pinned down, yet strong breezes would occasionally scatter messy strands across the frame, demanding patience. The biggest challenge with this costume is maintaining its graceful drape on-body—especially the soft white skirt panels, which tend to bunch up easily. To avoid looking bulky, posing at specific angles was essential. For Night photography, lens choice makes all the difference; the photographer used a medium-telephoto focal length, which beautifully blurred the background lanterns while making the subject pop in the foreground, resulting in a composition I am deeply pleased with. Daylight can be too harsh, lacking this hazy nocturnal atmosphere. Winter outdoor shoots are genuinely freezing—even with lights on set, the chilly breeze bit through, but seeing such refined textures in the final frames made every second worthwhile. My core focus was matching the lens through movement to convey the character's presence, such as controlling the torso and waistline to keep the silhouette sleek. In terms of props, I relied mostly on hand gestures. When posing, I kept my shoulders relaxed to soften arm contours and avoid stiffness. The cool fill light contrasted sharply against the warm background tones, and I adore this color temperature contrast. Shooting at night often introduces unwanted glare—for instance, glossy black leather reflections can look oily under direct light, so lighting was angled slightly to the side. Throughout the session, the photographer constantly guided my positioning to ensure the dreamy background lantern ambiance was captured. Having taken on this project, I naturally wanted to express the character's signature traits, keeping facial expressions relaxed and lively rather than rigid. This shoot gave me a much deeper appreciation for Jinhsi's design nuances, from her hair accessories to her color palette. Sharing this post simply to document a joyful creative journey.
