The weather was indeed intensely hot, and looking at this set of photos, I can almost feel the stifling summer warmth of that day all over again. "Sensei, it's so hot outside, please have some water!"—this playful quote perfectly captured the mood of the shoot. For this Doujin festival, I chose to cosplay the Gymnastics uniform version of Marie from Blue Archive.
The entire outfit centers on a blue-and-white color palette, offering a very refreshing visual appeal. The top is a white athletic short-sleeved T-shirt with a black collar and prints on the chest and shoulders, paired with bright blue athletic shorts trimmed with yellow and white stripes along the sides, staying true to a school gym class setting. For the lower body, the White thigh-highs outfit paired with dark navy canvas sneakers not only elongates the leg lines, but also perfectly showcases the character's energetic, athletic charm.
Beyond the base costume, I invested plenty of effort into the accessories. Fluffy animal ears paired with a white headband and floral hair accents, combined with her iconic yellow star hairpins on both sides, maximized character recognition. An orange lanyard with a STAFF badge hung across my chest, a white track jacket with blue trim was tied around my waist, a white-and-yellow color-blocked sports bag was slung over my shoulder, and a blue-and-white packaged plastic water bottle was held in hand—every nuance was carefully chosen to faithfully recreate her complete Gymnastics uniform look in daily settings.
For hair and makeup, to match the character's personality, I selected a golden-blonde short wig, trimmed to an appropriate thickness and fringe curve. Blue contact lenses gave my gaze a clear, deep look, which, paired with the overall eye makeup, highlighted a natural, youthful energy. The shooting location was a high-key pure white studio where soft, diffused lighting kept the whole frame clean and bright without disruptive shadows, accentuating the vibrant garment colors and facial contours.
In posing, I strived for natural, expansive movements. For example, the one-legged stance holding up the water bottle in Photo 3 captured a playful, dynamic moment of finishing a drink during a workout break and preparing to dive back into activities. The kneeling stretching pose in Photo 2 reflects a common post-exercise cooldown posture, fitting her athletic field persona. In Photo 1, sitting sideways on the floor with a calm, gentle gaze created a tranquil moment of catching one's breath during exercise.
Many might wonder whether wearing thigh-high stockings and fluffy animal ears in the summer heat for outdoor or studio shoots feels suffocating. Honestly, in hot weather it does get a bit warm, but that is all part of the authentic cosplay experience. To present the character in her truest form before the camera and convey both her cuteness and athletic spirit, every bit of effort is completely worthwhile. Under the bright lights of a pure white environment, natural posing yields remarkably pleasing photo textures.
This is truly the joy of attending a Doujin festival—freezing your beloved character in a single frame through meticulous preparations and expressive posing.
