For this photoshoot, I selected the \"Himeko • Nova\" look. Spending considerable time on matching props and scenery, I am quite satisfied with the final result. For this white and red dress, the prop team specifically customized this polearm beforehand, making the visual focus very easy to control.
Red hair styling was actually the most meticulous part. This red wig not only needed the correct shade, but also required custom styling according to the original design. Parted to both sides starting from the forehead, the hair ends needed a natural curl to make the head shape look full on camera, avoiding a flat look that might ruin the overall demeanor. Additionally, red hair strands easily over-reflect under intense light, so the gaffer used appropriate diffusion during shooting to give the hair texture a more realistic feel. The hair accessory on top of the wig was also refined; though small, wire bobby pins had to be hidden carefully during fastening to ensure no traces were visible from the front or sides, making it hold up even under high-resolution close-ups.
The spliced tailoring of the outfit is another highlight of this styling. The top features a large area of pure white with white fluff decorations on the shoulders, while golden stars and tassel embellishments at the collar and chest elevate the overall sense of grandeur. The lower half is an asymmetrical skirt with red and white paneling, featuring golden starlight line embroidery along the side. While this design looks upright when standing still, dynamic movements require careful body angling. Especially when sitting down, the arrangement of the skirt must be tidied up; otherwise, the golden embroidery would be hidden by fabric folds, leaving the frame looking cluttered. The asymmetrical glove design is also intriguing: the right hand wears a functional short glove, while the left hand wears a long decorative glove, which, paired with gold wrist ornaments, adds layered depth to the arm lines.
The studio shoot setup selected an indoor room with red drapes, equipped with a black grand piano as the central prop. The combination of red drapes and a crystal chandelier imparted a palace or performance stage ambiance to the frame, fitting the tone of the dress wonderfully. To match this piano scene, I specifically wore high heels with gold sequins on my feet, adding visual highlights during kicking or stepping poses. However, the sequined soles were quite stiff; to maintain body stability during shooting, my calf muscles needed to stay somewhat tensed, which inadvertently added a sense of strength to my standing posture.
For pose design, I intentionally tried two different states. The first picture features a seated pose on the piano, requiring an elegant and composed posture with legs crossed and the right hand extended naturally outward to convey a calm, dignified air. The second picture shows a standing pose, holding the polearm with one hand, paired with a sharp gaze to unleash the character's intrinsic heroic spirit and decisiveness. The weight distribution of the weapon prop was very reasonable, giving it a solid weight in hand while resting sturdily on the ground, which made it easier to lock in my standing posture without getting thrown off balance by wobbly props.
Regarding makeup, I chose a relatively elegant and subtle base this time without heavy eyeshadow, focusing instead on emphasizing the clarity of the gaze to align with the overall aristocratic aura.
Lighting application had a huge impact on this white and red outfit. White easily overexposes while red easily darkens; to balance both, the photographer's lighting scheme used large-area diffusion combined with subtle side-backlighting to outline the edges of the red wig, making both red and white vivid without being glaring in the picture.
In terms of post-processing retouching, we mainly corrected the color variance between the red drapes and the red fabric, keeping the overall red tones unified without clutter while preserving the grainy luster of the gold threads on the costume. The shooting experience for this styling was fantastic; both the outfit design itself and the scene compatibility added huge value to the final presentation. Particularly, switching between two completely different atmospheres—sitting and standing—gave distinctly different visual feedback in front of the lens. For a main hero character like this, producing a set of high-restoration photos requires repeatedly refining details, and this final outcome achieved the expected results in both color accuracy and atmosphere. This attempt at Cosplay photography truly brought out the essence of the character.
