Today, I finally finished editing this set of Furina photos from Genshin Impact, and since it coincides with her birthday, it feels especially meaningful. A great deal of thought went into every stage, from initial concept prep to shooting. What initially drew me to this character was her deeply complex, captivating demeanor. To bring that presence to life, extensive effort went into the hair and makeup. The white wig was styled with subtle light-blue gradient highlights, and that iconic ahoge on the crown took quite a while to sculpt with hairspray; topped with a silver mini-crown, the full silhouette of the head came together cleanly. For the eye makeup, I applied reddish eyeshadow paired with vivid blue contact lenses, hoping to inject a touch of mystery whenever gazing into the camera.
In terms of wardrobe, I selected a color-contrasting white-and-black formal dress. The gold trim details along the chest and hemline were intricately crafted—especially the layer of black gossamer on the skirt, which delivers an airy yet grounded fullness with every step. To complement the outfit, the lower body was styled with black stockings and black high heels, with golden straps wrapped around the ankles to beautifully flatter leg contours. For gloves, I chose semi-sheer black tulle opera gloves, which made handling the prop sword appear far more graceful while perfectly echoing the color palette of the dress.
To reflect the setting of the Nation of Hydro in Genshin Impact, the set was staged with abundant blue drapes, white plaster pillars, and dense clusters of blue-and-white floral arrangements. The floor was covered with reflective fabric, accented by blue starfish to cultivate the surreal magic of an underwater palace. During the shoot, light control was paramount. To make the subject and the luminous props pop, the background was slightly dimmed while soft light swept in from the side—preserving overall clarity while giving the blue-and-black attire rich dimensional depth. I explored a variety of seated and standing poses, using the flare of the skirt and the extension of leg lines to enrich the visual composition.
The prop sword served as another key visual centerpiece. With its blade casting an ethereal blue glow, pairing it with specific stances lent the character a tangible sense of strength. Even though holding it for long stretches made my arms ache, the resulting shots were deeply gratifying. Furina's narrative arc in the game is richly layered; I sought to express the coexistence of her resilience and vulnerability through slightly lowered lids or a calm, stoic gaze. Standing before the camera, it isn't just about striking an attractive pose—it's about genuinely believing you are the one commanding center stage.
Having done cosplay for so long, every photoshoot still brings fresh challenges. From selecting outfits and customizing makeup to final color grading, every single step requires seamless communication and adaptation. The lighting and color atmosphere of this set took extensive coordination with my photographer on set, striving to honor the original character's tone while appealing to live-action aesthetics. Publishing this set today serves as a heartfelt tribute to the character, and once again, Happy Birthday Furina! I look forward to bringing more diverse 2D visual works to everyone in the future, continuing to discover joy in every role I inhabit.
