At Day 2 of the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo this time, I dressed up as Laffey in this bunny ear idol look. Actually, while preparing this costume, I kept thinking about how to convey Laffey's listless yet super cute vibe through the camera lens. After all, she comes from Bunny Planet and is an idol who is lazy yet absolutely serious about her work.
Let's talk about this costume first. The silver-white twin-tail wig was styled strand by strand by myself; to maintain that light and fluffy texture, I spent quite some time setting it. The bunny ear headband and pink-and-black plaid bow tie on top of my head are the soul of the whole look. To ensure it wouldn't tilt in the crowded convention hall, I specially reinforced it with hidden clips. The headset is an iconic accessory of the character, and wearing it immediately gives a sense of immersion, as if standing by on stage or preparing to open the mic.
The top is a midriff-baring crop top design with a white primary color paired with gold buttons and thin chains, plus black lace at the neckline, making the visual layering very rich. The sleeves are detached, with pink plaid patchwork along the edges of wide long sleeves, and strands of beads and plush balls on the arms that sway gently when walking—the combination of motion and stillness feels fantastic. The small rabbit prints on the skirt hem and the black-and-red heart bow tie at the waist blend the character's sweetness with a touch of playfulness. White thigh-highs and pink platform shoes are also figure-flattering parts of this outfit; while the overall color scheme leans pink and white, the black lace and bow ties keep it from feeling overly sweet.
The temperature on the day of the convention was actually quite hot. Although the air conditioning inside the venue was strong, wearing this crop top along with long sleeves made me sweat quite a bit while walking back and forth. However, since I was cosplaying this character, I had to maintain that "lazy yet cute" state. I found a few soft-lit spots near the booths and posed under Sengil-teacher's guidance. For instance, the hand-on-forehead pose was actually me imitating Laffey's "so sleepy, but still gotta work" feeling; while the photo holding a small notebook was meant to highlight that as an idol, she actually has a serious side of taking notes and keeping records.
Regarding the photography part, I really want to specially thank Sengil-teacher. Sengil-teacher was very familiar with the venue's lighting setup, avoiding many messy background display boards and crowds, using a wide aperture to blur the background cleanly and make the character stand out much more. During the shoot, teacher kept capturing my natural facial expressions rather than forcing overly rigid poses, so the resulting photos turned out quite relaxed and natural. This "effortless win" shooting rhythm is a perfect match for Laffey's persona.
In fact, there were many other costume details this time, such as anti-exposure adjustments inside the skirt and how the shoelace bows were tied, all adjusted by myself. Because cosplay is not just about taking good-looking photos, but restoring the world inside the character's setting. Laffey comes from Bunny Planet, and her idol identity carries a detached, carefree nature—this gap moe is precisely the core I wanted to express. At the convention, when many passing friends recognized this look and called out "Laffey," that moment of interaction made me feel that all preparations were well worth it.
From morning hair and makeup to packing up in the evening, my feet were indeed exhausted after a full day, but flipping through the preview images provided by Sengil-teacher and seeing those moments frozen in time by the lens filled me with a sense of achievement. These photos didn't undergo overly exaggerated post-processing, mainly preserving the original fabric textures and natural skin glow. I feel that for cosplay works, an authentic state is often more resonant than excessive retouching.
Finally, I'd like to share a small detail: the little pink notebook in my hand was actually a handcrafted customized prop, inside which I actually wrote down an "idol schedule" I designed, though in the end probably nothing got done—that's true Laffey style after all. Although the Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo had huge foot traffic this time, the entire experience was very enjoyable. I hope to meet everyone at conventions again next time with even more interesting looks.
