Today, I visited an outdoor pool for a pool photography session featuring Cartethyia's blue-themed outfit, aiming to capture a blend of summer freshness and fantasy. To suit the scene, I chose an off-the-shoulder tulle dress paired with a broad blue choker and golden floral bracelets. The wig and elf ears were the focal points of this styling; the feather hairpin, white blossoms, and blue teardrop earrings had a beautifully translucent refraction under the sunlight, requiring sturdy fastening to hold their perfect shape in front of the camera. As for makeup, the black cross mark on the forehead was the defining touch, which, combined with blue contact lenses, captured the character's cool, aloof, and subtly lively expression.
The sunlight on the day of the shoot was intense, but the shimmering surface of the water served as a natural reflector, evenly illuminating my face. I first tried sitting on a clear inflatable pool float, legs gently crossed and one hand softly resting on my shoulder. This pose demanded solid core strength because the float kept shifting on the water, requiring constant balance adjustments while keeping an eye on the drape of my skirt to ensure it remained visible and formed graceful lines. Later, I moved to a poolside rattan lounge chair; reclining and leaning sideways felt much more relaxed, and extending my legs allowed the thin white ankle ribbons and delicate golden accents to enrich the visual details.
Lighting conditions changed rapidly throughout the session, so I made sure to capture as many sets as possible during noon when the sunlight was at its clearest. The raw shots had great light and shadow foundations. During post-processing, I shifted the overall palette toward cooler blue and white tones, retaining the skin's natural texture while boosting the translucency of the tulle and clear float. Since strong sunlight makes highlights on such materials prone to overexposure, I made careful selective color adjustments to lend distinct depth and layering to the entire scene.
To achieve that effortless yet ethereal aesthetic, I put a lot of thought into body language. Posing barefoot looked stunning, yet the poolside tiles were scorching hot, meaning every pose adjustment relied on the photographer snapping quickly in sync. From the styling to the setting, this set is brimming with a crisp, aquatic ambiance, with every frame capturing the essence of summer. Overcoming the challenges of balance and harsh light in a real setting made the whole shoot deeply rewarding.
