[Rem cosplay] Re:Zero - Starting Life in Another World, A Promise at Pazhou Anime Exhibition

The day of this shoot happened to be the peak attendance day at the Guangzhou Pazhou Anime Exhibition. Even though people were constantly coming and going in the background, the natural light outside the exhibition hall was fantastic, so we found a relatively open spot to take this photo. To get fully into character, I put a lot of effort into the styling and makeup. After buying the wig, I trimmed the bangs and sideburns myself to ensure it properly covered my right eye and framed my face nicely. For the eye makeup, I paired blue contacts with bolder eyeliner to emphasize the classic large anime-style eyes. I also concealed my natural eyebrows and redrew them with cyan-blue eyeshadow to match my hair color. As for the costume, I chose a white Kimono patterned with intertwined purple, pink, and blue floral designs. The light pink obi around the waist, accented with a purple cord and an openwork flower knot, created a well-balanced visual look. The pink floral hair accessory on the right side also added the perfect finishing touch. Because of the heavy crowd that day, the photographer constantly had to look for the right angles to avoid passersby, which really tested our patience. The peace sign gesture was completely spontaneous—I was just chatting with the photographer about playing some music and happened to raise my hand naturally. Because it was a candid snapshot without forced poses or expressions, looking directly into the camera felt very relaxed. This really made me realize why so many cosplay enthusiasts love candid shots at anime conventions; compared to studio shoots, this lively and vibrant atmosphere is irreplaceable. We didn't use a reflector this time and relied solely on the soft natural light, giving the skin tone and clothing shadows a very authentic texture. White Kimono can easily be tinted by ambient light, but the natural light filtering through the buildings brought out a translucent glow with just the right color saturation. During the shoot, I adjusted my positioning multiple times with the photographer to create a more pleasing perspective and flatter my proportions. Regarding styling details, I pressed down the hairline of the wig to make it blend smoothly without looking like a bulky cap. Although the colored contacts had a large diameter, they were quite comfortable, so my expressions stayed natural throughout. The fabric of the outfit breathed well, so even wearing it all day in the muggy environment of the Pazhou venue didn't feel overly suffocating. While waiting for the photographer to adjust the gear, I readjusted the neckline overlap to prevent it from looking stiff. For the V-sign pose, I deliberately paid attention to the curve of my wrist to make my hand line look softer. Small details like these might seem subtle, but they stand out clearly in the final photos. Since outdoor lighting shifted rapidly—getting dimmer whenever clouds passed over—we had to seize every moment to shoot, and luckily, almost every shot turned out great. Looking back, even though it was exhausting, it was totally worth it. Every photoshoot is a fresh experience; facing different venues and lighting conditions gives the photos entirely different textures. Perhaps that's why I keep shooting at anime conventions: that vividness and authenticity are hard to replicate in a studio. Despite the noisy crowd, staying focused actually made it easy to calm down. I think this is one of the joys of cosplay—bringing beloved characters to life in our own way and leaving behind wonderful memories in the real convention atmosphere. Reflecting on this shoot, beyond being pleased with the makeup and costume, the biggest reward was capturing this vivid moment. Despite heavy gear and crowded spaces, the satisfying result is the true charm of on-site shoots. This set of photos was a truly meaningful attempt for me.
