This photoshoot was set at the light and shadow competition site in Shenzhen Kingway Brewery, where my partner and I completed a Ram and Rem duo cosplay. The costume is a classic black-and-white maid outfit, characterized by multiple layers of lace and ruffles. Maintaining the fluffiness of the skirt required a solid petticoat and careful arrangement, and the lace at the neckline and the bow in the back had to be tied snugly to fit the body shape. The wigs took a long time to style with hairspray, especially the bangs and braids on both sides, ensuring they wouldn't warp even during large movements. The photographer used a Sony mirrorless camera paired with a prime lens to shoot in front of an off-white wavy background wall, utilizing natural light and a reflector for fill. The high-definition camera captured the texture of the white tights and the glossy finish of the black chunky-heeled leather shoes with great clarity. The posing primarily focused on the interaction shown across three photos: holding feather dusters as props, changing the visual center of gravity through poses where one person sat on a chair, one half-squatted, or both stood side-by-side with crossed legs. We also paid special attention to the angles at which our heads tilted in different directions to better match the demeanor from the anime. Eye contact between us during shooting was crucial—either looking at the camera together or having one look at the camera while the other looked at the partner's hand, adding a stronger sense of narrative. The off-white stone slabs on the ground matched the industrial style of the background very well, and the afternoon light falling on the clothes appeared quite soft. The whole process was somewhat physically demanding; because of the large skirt hem, we had to be careful not to step on it while walking or squatting. To accentuate the leg lines, we carefully smoothed out any wrinkles after putting on the White stockings, which, combined with the ankle straps of the Mary Jane shoes, really added extra points for the character portrayal. In addition to standard standing poses, we also tried skirt-flutter snapshot shots under the photographer's guidance. Post-processing focused primarily on maintaining naturalness, slightly brightening skin tones to highlight complexion while retaining the texture of the monochrome tone, minimizing excessive skin smoothing to let the authentic lighting beneath the greyish-white background shine through. The overall result turned out quite nice; the high fidelity of this maid outfit made it a deeply memorable outdoor cosplay experience.
