Putting on this intricately detailed Fu Xuan cosplay costume and standing in the pre-arranged scene where the ancient-style wooden house intertwines with pink floral branches, the composure and mystery belonging to the Master Diviner immediately came to life in the viewfinder. The main point of discussion for this collaboration with photographer @Bacicifangen was how to merge the character with the environment's atmosphere rather than simply showcasing the gorgeousness of the clothing. Fu Xuan's look is highly recognizable, with the biggest highlights being her light pink, slightly curled long hair, the purple diamond mark on her forehead, and this Xianzhou outfit dominated by blue, purple, and white, adorned with starry under-patterns and gold fret patterns. Wearing this outfit really tests one's patience; from the heavily metallic, crescent-decorated complex crown to the off-the-shoulder layered cuffs, every detail requires careful adjustment to achieve a natural, well-fitted look. I also put some effort into the inner layer and straps to ensure the sleeves drape naturally without looking bloated.
The scene layout was very meticulously prepared. The warm yellow lantern light and the pink glow filtering in through the window reflected off each other, making the entire space look gentle and full of Chinese fantasy. During the shoot, I tried a few different states to recreate the layers of Fu Xuan's personality. For instance, lying on the wooden couch with old thread-bound books and counting rods by my hand, that lazy and casual posture brought out a touch of relaxation from the Master Diviner's daily life. There were also shots of sitting upright, holding a book in one hand, hoping to present her scholarly side—erudite and calm. What impressed me the most was the set of shots where I closed my eyes in deep concentration, with the massive matrix-shaped backpiece behind me, covered in zodiac star tracks. It not only added visual impact but was also incredibly heavy. To maintain that sense of serenity and all-controlling composure, the moment I raised both hands, I used almost all my core strength to steady my body's balance.
Shooting cosplay is actually not as simple as just putting on clothes; more importantly, it's about capturing the character's temperament itself. As a character, Fu Xuan seems cold on the surface, but she is actually meticulous and occasionally reveals a bit of tsundere and playfulness. Therefore, I deliberately made many fine adjustments to my gaze and hand gestures. The makeup artist enlarged my eye makeup to emphasize the sense of contour, and paired with silver-gray contact lenses, my gaze looked much more penetrating. Although the entire shooting process was long, watching the light hit the under-patterns of the fabric, reflecting a blend of faint blue, purple, and gold, brought a genuinely powerful sense of achievement. I especially love the overall color tone of this set of photos—it possesses the calmness of an Ancient style cosplay while retaining the unique brilliance of a game character. I truly hope this sense of dedication and immersion can be delivered through the images.
