Combining Rem with angelic elements went through several concept revisions during the initial planning phase. In Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-, Rem's signature charm is rooted in her daily maid outfit. However, wanting to explore a completely different visual presentation, I decided to retain her iconic blue hair and cross hairpin while swapping the outfit for a pure white lace dress, complete with a halo and wings to create a sacred and ethereal ambiance.
Styling the wig took quite a bit of effort. To capture that translucent Angel blue tone, I layered and thinned out the bangs to prevent them from looking too heavy. Blue hair can easily look cheap if not handled properly, so during wig selection and styling, I made sure to preserve a natural, flowing texture. The halo atop my head was crafted from acrylic fitted with LED strips; during the shoot, the angle had to be precisely calibrated to avoid casting awkward shadows across my face. The wings were custom-made—relatively lightweight in frame yet expansive in span—which meant I had to avoid overly dramatic movements to keep their shape intact.
For the wardrobe, to balance out the visual weight of the wings and halo, I chose an off-the-shoulder white dress. The large bow at the neckline and the lace on the sleeves added rich details. For the lower half, pairing it with white Lace ankle socks was simple, yet it effectively elongated the visual proportions, accentuated the leg lines, and added a light, maiden-like grace to the overall look.
During the shoot, we used a light blue seamless backdrop in the studio to complement the wig's Angel blue hue. The lighting primarily relied on softboxes, with subtle side backlighting added to illuminate the strands of hair and the edges of the wings, giving the subject an ethereal, glowing effect. In terms of posing, reflecting Rem's gentle and devoted nature, I avoided overly assertive postures in favor of curled-up, head-down poses, or resting a finger lightly against my chin. For instance, in the shot where I sit on a cylindrical plinth, leaning forward slightly, looking straight into the lens with one hand resting naturally and legs crossed, the composition naturally draws the viewer's gaze toward the facial makeup and leg lines.
In post-processing, I dialed down the saturation of the background blue and enhanced the translucency of the skin while preserving the intricate textures of the dress lace. Since blue hair can easily blend into a cool-toned background, I introduced slight contrast to the hair highlights to add depth. Pairing an angel halo with wings can easily border on looking overly theatrical, so I kept the eye makeup understated, opting for a clean, dewy base and soft pink lip tint. Harmonized with the wig's color, this balance allowed the final visuals to embody angelic sanctity without losing Rem's innate tenderness. This set serves as my personal interpretation of blending tenderness and purity, and I hope it conveys a distinct, captivating mood to everyone.
