The theme of this shoot was Christmas Rem, drawing inspiration from the original design of Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World- by combining Christmas elements with the maid outfit. Aiming for a more realistic texture, significant effort went into fabric selection and crafting. The main body of the dress is a rich deep red, accented with white lace trim and black-and-red striped elements. The large bow at the chest required precise positioning to accentuate the tailoring, while the small white Angel wings on the back added an airy 2D aesthetic. The wig is light blue; fixing the hair accessory and short style required multiple rounds of styling spray. The texture of the White stockings was also carefully considered; to accentuate leg lines while harmonizing with the winter holiday vibe, I chose over-the-knee socks with red and white stripes.
The set was styled with a Christmas tree, a red-and-green plaid blanket, a basket filled with apples, and snowman plushies. For lighting, warm-toned lights simulated a cozy indoor ambiance, with soft facial rim light making the skin appear luminous. In terms of posing, I sat on the blanket holding a red gift box with both hands—a pose that highlighted the gift box prop while naturally showcasing the skirt's voluminous flare and the details of the White stockings. For still photography, facial expressions required nuanced variation: balancing her usual calm composure with subtle festive wonder. During shooting, I slightly adjusted the skirt's folds as requested by the photographer to ensure lace textures were highlighted in close-ups.
Post-processing focused mainly on skin tone grading and managing the background depth of field, with soft bokeh blurring the background to make the subject pop. We also ensured the red ribbon on the prop box didn't obscure my face too much, maintaining compositional balance. From shooting to post-processing, the entire photoset strove to stay faithful to the original demeanor without losing the character's intrinsic traits amid the festive theme. For Rem, her loyalty to her master and inner softness are essential, but in this Christmas cosplay theme, projecting a livelier presence suited to the holiday mood was paramount. Makeup-wise, blue eyes paired with rosy blush accentuated her doll-like charm. Although moving in the heavy gown was slightly cumbersome, immersing myself in the character felt wonderful. I hope this styling brings visual relaxation and joy to everyone who loves the Christmas atmosphere and Rem.
