This shoot featured Rem's aqua Swimsuit styling from Re:ZERO -Starting Life in Another World-. The ensemble boasts rich layering: the outer layer is a white translucent sailor-collared cover-up adorned with blue-and-white striped trims along the cuffs and collar, layered over a matching striped crop top. To lean deeper into the summer beachwear theme, I styled it with dark frayed denim cutoffs and White stockings thigh-highs. The yellow necktie formed a vibrant visual focal point amidst the dominant blue-and-white palette, while the red-and-white patterned tie knot added an energetic pop of contrast. Pairing the white hosiery with chunky black platform loafers organically elongated the leg line. For optimal on-camera presentation, the short blue wig was carefully trimmed and styled to ensure the bangs remained light and airy rather than dense.
While shooting this set, I explored diverse body language. In standing poses, I incorporated clenching fists and holding hands behind my back paired with a resolute gaze, channeling her balance of endearing sweetness and quiet strength. For the frames seated upon the white faux-fur blanket, I integrated playful salutes and cat-paw gestures. Holding these seated poses tests your core muscles—for the seated salute, keeping the spine tall and modulating the bend of the knees was essential to prevent the White stockings from looking bulky on camera. We chose a studio space featuring cool grey concrete floors with subtle industrial vibes; the cool ambient tone made the blue-and-white wardrobe pop with crisp, clean contrast.
We also experimented with lighting: overhead key lights sculpted natural facial shadows, while bounce reflectors filled the upper torso, faithfully rendering the delicate, sheer weave of the translucent cover-up. Whenever prepping a cosplay outfit, I invest extensive time into studying fabric contrast and color harmony. With the high chromatic saturation of this aqua look, nailing white balance was critical to prevent the blues from shifting. For poses, I avoid rigid posturing, striving instead to immerse myself in the character's energetic 2D spirit before the lens. Between takes, I discussed compositional nuances with the photographer, such as placing the subject slightly below center to lengthen the vertical silhouette. The shoot flowed seamlessly, and the surrounding ambient lighting sparked plenty of creative inspiration.
