Dressing in this blue and white military uniform, adjusting the star-emblem cap on my head, and stepping onto the gravel of abandoned railway tracks, the real sense of presence finally settled in. This Night photography session took place on a disused stretch of railroad in the suburban outskirts. The surrounding environment felt vast and quiet at night, which happened to fit the battleground ambiance where the character resides.
Great care was put into the details of this uniform outfit. The dark blue military uniform jacket used a fabric with a certain degree of stiffness so that it could hold its shoulder silhouette well under flash photography. The gold piping around the collar, metal button decorations on the shoulder straps, and the gold decorative chain across the chest were all key elements in recreating the character's design. The lower dress was tailored rather crisp and clean, paired with white over-the-knee socks and black leather thigh straps meant for holding equipment, visually elongating leg lines while adding a moderate tactical techwear feel.
During makeup, focus was placed on pairing light blue lenses with eyes, along with the characteristic ash-white bangs featuring a small streak of red highlight. Although night had fallen, the wig's strands maintained clear layering under strong lighting. Once my partner got ready in a dark grey military dress uniform and dark red tie, Shin and Lena began refining our positions on the tracks. When filming the shot of the partners saluting each other, we deliberately restrained our facial expressions, avoiding over-dramatization to keep a poised yet resilient attitude.
The solo framing featuring a red flower held in hand took considerable time to adjust. The red spider lily stood out strikingly against the dull grey gravel and railway tracks, serving as a vital visual accent color in the overall scene. In the duo shots, we recreated the reunion poses described in the post: whether exchanging handshakes with eye contact or resting her head against his chest, both required finding proper balance during physical contact to convey reliance without appearing slumped.
The photography utilized a single-light setup with a snoot for localized lighting. Light illuminated only the subjects while keeping the background dark, ensuring characters stood out against the darkness. The advantage of this lighting approach lay in highlighting the metallic sheen of the Military uniform cosplay outfit, high-key reflections on over-the-knee socks, and facial side profiles. Especially in several backward-glance shots, the cap brim shadowed part of the forehead while light outlined the jaw and neck, keeping the overall frame clean and the subject strikingly prominent.
Looking at the finished photos showing the uniform's fabric textures, dust particles suspended in the night air, and two people standing quietly on railway tracks gazing at each other, the original purpose of this outdoor shoot was fulfilled. Through this Lena cosplay project, we hoped to present the environment of 86-Eighty-Six- and the deep bonds between Shin and Lena in a concrete, visual medium.
