Today, I'm sharing the shoot chronicle for this official Wakaba Mutsumi cosplay photoshoot. It took about half a month from preparation to final image delivery. Mutsumi's temperament is unique—leaning heavily toward cool detachment and distance. So once the shoot was scheduled, I focused on how to recreate this distinct atmosphere through costume, props, and location.

First, the wig and makeup: the mint green wig color is tricky with lighting, and it easily appears flat on gloomy rainy days. To achieve natural volume and texture, I treated it with wig conditioner and styled it section by section with a flat iron. The blunt front bangs were neatly trimmed, and the side locks hugging the cheeks were tapered inward. For makeup, I avoided heavy contouring; the foundation was kept pristine and fair, with eye makeup focusing on defining the outer corners to add depth. A natural muted rose-nude lip color completed the look, maintaining an understated yet cool, detached impression.

As for the outfit, this blue-and-white checkered dress has lovely details, featuring white lace along the collar and a green ribbon bow at the chest. To ensure an upright silhouette during the shoot, I added tailoring adjustments at the waistline. The knee-length hemline swished gracefully during walking and turning poses. I paired it with slouchy white socks and black Mary Jane shoes—a classic look in 2D cosplay that subtly flatters the leg lines alongside White stockings aesthetics. The clean white contrast panels along the hem and cuffs also looked sharp; while the overall style feels collegiate, Mutsumi's guarded expression helped ground it with that signature chilliness.

The key props were an oversized black rectangular guitar case and a clear transparent umbrella. That case was genuinely heavy; even without an instrument inside, the strap dug painfully into my shoulder. To capture an authentic sense of weight, I consciously let that shoulder drop slightly and tilted my torso. Holding a black canvas tote while balancing an umbrella in motion was a real test of coordination. Clear umbrellas look stunning on rainy days—water droplets on the canopy create striking textures. Despite the chilly temperature and gusty wind, I carefully adjusted my grip to keep the white curved handle visible for extra detail.

The outdoor location was a park with bridges and covered walkways. The wet ground from the rain and reflective puddles added incredible texture to the shots. To stay true to Wakaba Mutsumi's character, I kept facial expressions restrained—no smiling, mostly zoning out or casting glances out of the corner of my eye toward the camera. Leaning against railings or pacing aimlessly along the footbridge while watching the raindrops fall, I allowed myself to drift into a completely detached state of mind. Many of the movements happened organically rather than through forced posing, and the photographer captured those fleeting moments brilliantly.

Shooting in the rain with an umbrella and a heavy instrument case meant dealing with mud splashing onto the dress hem and dodging mosquitoes. But seeing how beautifully the rainy mood resonated with the character in the finished shots made every bit of effort worthwhile. I hope this rainy-day series brings everyone a unique visual experience.
