[Phrolova Cosplay] Wuthering Waves Twilight Tale, A Gothic Prelude Interweaving Red and Black

For this photoshoot of Phrolova's Twilight Tale from Wuthering Waves, special thought went into the costume and staging. The red-and-black color scheme was my core choice for outfit coordination. To fit the \"Twilight Tale\" theme, the top features an off-the-shoulder design paired with layered two-tier ruffled cuffs—one layer black and one vivid red—complemented by a black choker with a red rose pendant around the neck. Leather straps at the waist accentuate the tailored silhouette, making the overall lines crisper. The cage crinoline skirt frame on the lower half is very unique; while posing, it beautifully displays the skirt's layers and expands the visual dimensionality. Paired with black lace-up chunky-heeled ankle boots, it strikes a nice balance between heaviness and lightness.

The long staff held in my hand was a crucial prop for this shoot. The top features metallic cross or ring components, wrapped and embellished with red flower bouquets. Since shooting required applying force through large movements multiple times, the weight distribution and center of gravity of the prop had to be managed carefully; otherwise, it could easily disrupt the fluid flow of the motion. For makeup, a deep eye makeup look was chosen to enhance the character's sinister charm and mysterious aura, paired with a silver-white wig tinted with faint mint green. It was specifically braided into a thick side plait draped over one shoulder, adorned with small red flowers on the other side. This contrast is precisely what makes Phrolova's character design so captivating.

Setting up the scene required considerable effort. The floor was covered with red rose petals, accompanied by props like wrought-iron birdcages and white skulls. Combined with the giant clock face glowing with a dark red light in the background, the entire space was infused with a vintage, slightly dangerous, dark Gothic style atmosphere. When the red ambient light hit the set, it created a stark contrast against my silver hair and black dress. Although adjusting the lighting took a lot of time, the resulting light and shadow effects were immensely atmospheric.

Choreographing movements during the photoshoot genuinely tested physical coordination. Whether lifting one leg to show the cage crinoline silhouette or holding the staff with both hands while leaning slightly, managing shifts in gravity was essential. Because the skirt frame was quite rigid, changing positions and sitting required finesse so as not to look stiff. The photographer was very patient in guiding poses; we experimented with several prop interactions and body angles. Especially in the seated shot, paired with foreground blur and a chin-resting posture, the overall feel became much more subtle and gentle.

After completing this photoshoot, I gained a deeper understanding of Phrolova. Twilight Tale is not merely about color combinations, but about conveying a unique allure and aloofness through Gothic style elements. The classic red-and-black palette delivers a strong visual punch, which demanded high precision for color layering during post-processing. Thankfully, the final retouched photos perfectly recreated the imagery I had in mind.
