The theme of this shoot was the battle for 'Shooting Star' within the MEKA squad: I cosplayed Yuna Lee, while my partner took on Hana Song cosplay. Portraying different characters, we completed this head-to-head shoot in an esports room setting. Crafting this combat suit for Yuna Lee required tremendous effort. The white chest armor had to be sanded repeatedly to achieve that streamlined yet rigid finish. The hexagonal and diamond-shaped modules on top, as well as the red accents, were all meticulously applied by hand. The silver-and-purple metallic bracers needed Velcro and hidden snaps to stay in place; though slightly restrictive, they created a very crisp silhouette once worn. The black leggings paired with silver armor plating made the overall lines much sharper. The prints on the outer thighs were specially adjusted, with numerous tests on typography and colors to faithfully recreate that futuristic feel. For the wig, I selected a softly curled violet style, trimming it into layers so the locks draped naturally over my shoulders. The communication headset and mechanical ear antennae on my head were the key focal points of the entire gear. The red glowing elements on the headset weren't added in post-production; they were fitted with actual LED strips that emitted an authentic fluorescent glow under the blacklight. The glossy black gloves got sweaty after wearing them for a while, but to maintain clean hand shapes for the photos, they had to stay taut, so I was constantly adjusting my finger placements. The location was set in a control room filled with multiple display screens and cables. The photographer used purple and blue neon lights as the primary light sources, casting a cold, gritty Cyberpunk texture across the armor suit. Sitting in the gaming chair with my hands on the joystick and keyboard, I constantly visualized Yuna Lee's combat mindset from the game. To let the camera capture a more authentic esports state, I adjusted my seating posture multiple times, leaning slightly forward and lowering my center of gravity—this not only supported the chest armor firmly but also made my gaze appear far more focused. Yuna Lee possesses an unyielding, competitive spirit. Therefore, in terms of expression, I tucked away my usual gentle look, facing the lens with sharper eyeliner and a slightly provocative stare. During solo shots, my gestures were bolder—brushing a hand over the headset or extending an arm outward—striving to convey a conviction that I wouldn't lose to anyone. Even when my partner wasn't in the frame, I visualized Hana standing across from me to maintain that showdown tension. The entire suit was quite heavy, especially the metal pieces on the shoulders and arms. For the half-body close-up in the first photo, I had to keep my core engaged the entire time to maintain straight shoulder lines. In another instance where I draped a jacket over one shoulder for a full-body shot, the jacket kept slipping off, taking several attempts to snap the most natural moment. The high hit rate of good shots this time owed much to thorough pre-shoot communication. Integrating the in-game mecha concepts with the esports room environment and carefully balancing light and shadow resulted in a very strong high-tech feel. I thoroughly enjoyed stepping into the shoes of a mecha pilot amid the glow of light and shadow, and I look forward to exploring even more camera positions and angles next time.
