For this shoot of Rappa from Honkai: Star Rail, the main goal was to express the character's cool, edgy, and dashing vibe. Since I started playing in October and spent almost every day immersed in the game to catch up with the main storyline, I developed a deep understanding of Rappa's lore and setting. In terms of props and outfit, the red jacket was custom-made after searching through many materials, featuring a reflective texture that, paired with the white cropped top and black shorts, creates a strong visual color impact. The trickiest part was the long pink ponytail wig. To make the hair flow naturally with a dynamic arc in front of the lens, it required styling and fixing days in advance, as well as an assistant tossing it during the shoot to achieve the final effect. The canister prop hanging at the waist is crafted with fine detail, perfectly accenting the lower body composition.
The photoshoot took place in a Cyberpunk studio. The background featured a screen displaying scrolling code, combined with blue and purple neon light strips in the environment. This created a great warm-cold color contrast with the red outfit, nicely enhancing the character's mysterious aura. For poses, I referenced some of the character's high-tension, aggressive movements, including leaning forward with outstretched hands and tilted framing, maximizing the character's lively and badass nature. The choice of colored contacts also matched the character setting; the green pupils looked exceptionally vibrant under the blue-purple lighting. During the shoot, the photographer guided the lighting angles and setup to make the subject pop and sculpt clean contours. The makeup was done with a three-dimensional style suitable for 2D print photography, deliberately emphasizing reddish-brown tones on the eyeshadow and using thick, trimmed false eyelashes to add piercing intensity to the gaze. Although the preparation was tedious—even trying on the costume three times before finalizing the makeup—I was personally very satisfied with the final result. It not only captured the character's innate coolness but also beautifully showcased details like the exposed waist and leg lines from a three-quarter angle. Cute and cool, it completely matched my imagination of this character. Even though the shoot day was exhausting with blinding lights, the moment I saw the raw shots, everything felt worthwhile. The design of this outfit is truly great; the back straps and red-black palette look stylish from any angle. I also love Rappa's storyline in the game and look forward to seeing her again in future updates. This photoshoot was more than just a character recreation; it felt like a summary of my recent gaming journey, pouring my love for this 2D style and character into every single photo.
