[Sparkle Cosplay] The Vintage Wanderer in Honkai: Star Rail - Image 1

It’s been a week since the photoshoot for this Sparkle cosplay from Honkai: Star Rail, but holding the final prints makes it all feel worth it. During the preparation stage, I constantly pondered how to translate the intense anime visual impact from the game into a realistic texture in the 3D world. The red, white, and black color-blocking on the costume is the visual core. To avoid looking cheap, I chose a satin fabric with a certain sheen for the deep red portions, while the white parts are composite cotton. The sleeve design was very particular; to recreate that exaggerated yet flowing silhouette, the tailor and I repeatedly refined the fabric's drape and support. Finally, we added a hidden lightweight internal framework to the inside of the cuffs, achieving the effect seen in the photos where they appear to float while maintaining their shape.

For the bunny ear headpiece, it would easily collapse without support, so I used wire mesh and lightweight sponge as a lining, covered with plush fabric. The large white pom-pom on the prop actually hides a counterweight, so that when lifted, it sways slightly under the center of gravity, making the movement more dynamic. The day of the shoot actually presented significant challenges because, in addition to being gorgeous, this character's look contains many details. The ties around the waist and the cross knots on the chest required constant attention to the angle; otherwise, they would become messy upon turning.

The venue was chosen at a vintage bistro with wooden wine racks. The contrast between light and shadow in this scene added a lot to the photos. The warm yellow ambient light in the cabinet on the left and the cool blue-green light refracted through the glass bottles on the right formed a subtle color conflict. This environmental lighting not only highlighted the character's unique temperament but also saved a lot of trouble in post-processing. During the shoot, I paid special attention to the display of the ankle and leg lines; black short boots paired with white slouch socks not only refine leg proportions but also align with the character's designated playful vibe. Although standing on one leg while holding a heavy prop really tested my core strength, at the moment the camera clicked, I managed to endure despite the tense muscles.

In the process of constantly adjusting the movements, I tried to let the skirt hem and wide sleeves unfurl naturally with the action. The photographer captured many high-light moments. In post-processing, we made minor adjustments to slightly dim the chaotic elements in the background, focusing the visual focus more on the person. However, the foundation of the raw photos was very good; the wooden tables and chairs, the light and shadow in the glass bottles, and the vintage posters on the wall were all retained, forming a scroll that is full of life yet carries mysterious colors.

I also spent a lot of time managing the wig portion this time. To present that flowing feel unique to anime for this white wig, I used special styling wax to grab some texture to avoid stiffness. The dragon beard bangs on both sides needed to be styled with a flat iron, paired with the bunny ear headpiece on top, to appear agile and natural. Regarding actual difficulties encountered during the shoot, such as the color difference of the red fabric under specific lighting, we specifically adjusted the color temperature when setting up the initial lighting to avoid it appearing too garish or overly dull as much as possible. Controlling these details is the key to ensuring the premium feel of the final photos.

Actually, what I enjoy most about doing cosplay is this process of creating from nothing—from the colors on the blueprint to the fabric in hand, to the final freeze-frame in the lens; every time is a brand-new experience. When you put on these clothes and stand in the right scene, you truly feel closer to the character. I don't like intentionally acting cool in front of the lens; I prefer a posture that is agile and playful, because that is the vitality this character should have. The results of this shoot not only restored the character's appearance but also captured that moment where the 2D and 3D worlds interweave. I am very satisfied myself.
