This Summer location photoshoot for Cyrene's wonderful holiday theme from Honkai: Star Rail came with truly challenging lighting conditions. We selected an open waterside boardwalk as our outdoor venue, where the midday sun beat down intensely and the water in the background produced an extremely high reflection rate. To match this brilliant summer ambiance, we made extensive tailored preparations for both makeup and wardrobe.
The wig was chosen with a gradient transitioning from vibrant pink to white. To add textural layering, slender braided pigtails were woven to cascade along both sides. Wearing a baby blue knit beanie pinned with matching hair clips instantly heightened the overall color saturation. The most crucial detail was attaching the elf ears: to blend them seamlessly with skin tones, extensive spirit gum and concealer were applied along the edges. We also constantly adjusted camera angles during the shoot to prevent harsh sunlight from casting awkward shadows around the ears.
The layering of the outfit was another key focus of the shoot. Beneath is a cropped white athletic sports bra, with bright pink shoulder straps peeking through at the neckline to echo the wig. The oversized holographic jacket over it was the defining highlight, catching the sunlight to reflect soft, iridescent rainbow shimmers. Because the cropped tank exposed the midriff, my waistline and abs were directly in the camera's view, requiring constant posture awareness—chest up, core engaged—while incorporating hand gestures like resting hands on the hips or playfully tugging the hemline to keep frames looking organic. For the bottom, I wore a dark charcoal pleated mini skirt accented by a blue paisley bandana tied around the waist and draped with a silver chain, breaking up the solid skirt's monotony. Paired with chunky white platform sneakers and slouchy white socks, it not only elongated leg proportions but also pumped up the overall youthful vitality.
During the actual shoot, because the sunlight was so blinding, expression management became the toughest hurdle. Looking straight into the lens easily triggered squinting, so photographer Fashi Yangsu suggested tilting my head up slightly or turning into three-quarter angles, letting the beanie's brim shade the eyes a bit. For that pose leaning against the railing, the metal bar was actually burning hot from the sun, so my hands only lightly hovered over it while my core supported the slight forward lean, which sculpted a flattering waist curve while avoiding contact with the scorching metal. Walking with the bag or kicking one leg back brought out organic, dynamic flare in the pleated skirt.
The entire shoot was physically demanding, as holding tight posture and keeping up lively, vibrant expressions were necessary to channel the effortless vacation mood of the theme. Yet seeing those finished chiaroscuro frames and the brilliant colors shimmering across the holographic jacket under the sun made the synergy between the outfit and the location completely worth it.
