This set of official photos for Sparkle from Honkai: Star Rail is finally able to meet everyone here. When initially deciding to do this Sparkle cosplay, I was attracted by her inherent sense of mystery and her cynical magician temperament. On the actual shooting day, the on-set arrangement and atmosphere were even more fitting than imagined, and I hope to let everyone see Sparkle's unique charm through this set of works.
Regarding this look, details can be said to hide clever thoughts everywhere. Primarily themed around red, black, and white, it creates a very strong visual contrast against the blue background, and also perfectly fits the highly sci-fi undertone of Honkai: Star Rail. The miniature black top hat on top of the head is not only playful, but the inlaid blue gemstone and white feathers enrich the layering of the head. The club knot at the neck echoes the clear playing card elements and diamond patterns on the clothes, running the magician elements through from beginning to end. The large sleeve openings and skirt hem printed with rabbits and card suits bring out rich visual effects with every turning movement.
In terms of action composition, we hoped to restore her calm and unhurried yet slightly mischievous aura. Besides the conventional sitting postures and standing postures holding the staff, we also specially attempted a fun perspective popping out from a trash can; this slightly unconventional composition instead increases the narrative feel of the image. For the close-up shot processing, a barefoot cross-legged sitting posture was selected, which can both display a casual and lazy side and make the overall styling softer and more intimate.
The shooting environment on that day was excellent; the blue water-ripple background panel behind created a dreamy feel like the deep sea or outer space, while the red genuine leather sofa and dark round table provided optimal scene support. This kind of arrangement beautifully enveloped the character's casino magician setting. To showcase Sparkle's agility, I also intentionally made quite a few attempts at controlling my gaze and expressions, trying to let every single frozen frame convey clear emotions.
Special thanks to the photography teacher @智乃酱 (The Ultimate Slacker Version). Although the teacher kept saying they were slacking off, their professionalism during the actual shoot was deeply admirable. From the fine arrangement of light positions to the instantaneous capture of the character's demeanor, everything was handled just right. Especially the color balance processing between the cool-toned background and the red-and-white clothing gave the final finished photos a very strong texture and depth.
This shoot experience was very smooth, and being able to concretize such a fantasy-filled character through a cosplay photoshoot brings a great sense of achievement. I hope this set of official photos lets everyone feel the fantasy and agility that this costume and the character herself wish to convey through our Anime-style photography.
