This striking outfit I wore at the convention today took a long time to go from the initial proposal to the actual finished product. Black and purple have always been a great color contrast combination, and this time I simply maxed out both the gorgeousness and the aggressiveness.
Let's start with the hairstyle. To ensure the bangs were flat and the sides were sharp, the wig took a long time to trim. The two purplish-red gradient horns on top of the head were treated with styling support and have an internal aluminum wire skeleton, so they won't easily collapse or tilt when walking through the convention crowds. To add layers of color, a gradient purplish-red highlight was added to the tips of the main black hair, which, combined with the cool-toned makeup, perfectly matches the overall vibe of this look.
For the main body of the costume, the upper half uses a black material with its own patent leather gloss, which reflects strong highlight textures under the booth lights. The neckline features a combination of a black choker and a purplish-red bow. Glossy heart-shaped snap buttons are embedded in the black patchwork leather pieces; hiding these delicate small elements within the main structure really tests one's crafting details. An irregular criss-cross strapping design goes from the chest to the waist, paired with a leather waist-cinching structure, making it look sleek and not bulky.
The purplish-red sequin flared skirt on the lower half is the highlight. The edge of the hem is stitched with black semi-transparent tulle and lace. When walking, the skirt flutters naturally with just the right amount of puffiness, showcasing the leg lines without restricting movement. The outer sequin fabric produces a starry-sky-like shimmer under camera flashes, which is highly eye-catching. The arms are paired with black sheer mesh half-finger gloves, with black spike decorations intentionally extending from the knuckles, adding a lot of edgy personality to this look that leans cute yet aggressive.
The over-knee stockings on the lower body are one of the visual focal points of the entire look. The sheer black stocking material, combined with the heart and arrow decorations pieced together with glossy leather at the top, visually elongates the proportions of the calves. Paired with black patent leather pointed high heels, the booth's highlights hit the shoes with an excellent reflective effect, making the overall dark style even more distinct. The small red-and-black contrasting prop I held, though small in size, features a mechanical texture on the surface and red accents that serve as a great color echo for the entire outfit.
The convention venue was actually very crowded and noisy, with various passing attendees often in the background. Fortunately, the photographer I found this time was quite experienced, capturing a few relatively clean angles and using the venue's lighting to complete this set of convention photos. The geometric color-blocked pattern of the floor tiles also acts as leading lines under a slightly high-angle shot. Although the site's lighting was harsh, combining it with a flash really brought out the glossy texture of the clothes. Overall, the design of this look balances aesthetics while not neglecting structural stability. The experience of attending the convention was great, and I hope to continue sharing this kind of personalized character portrayal and cosplay creation ideas in more diverse convention scenes in the future.
