Step onto the stage of Oshi no Ko, and that striking reddish-magenta hair paired with black-and-white layered skirts is definitely an eye-catching highlight at the convention. Today's photo set features live Convention photos from the JieYuan Anime & Games Festival. For the overall styling, I chose a classic magenta bob wig with straight bangs, paired with non-prescription black-framed glasses (although I took them off in later shots, wearing them added a sharper, intellectual flair).
The design of this Maid outfit is remarkably rich. The main black long-sleeved top features lantern sleeves, balancing mobility with cuteness. Red ruffled stitching accents the neckline and shoulders, complemented by an oversized satin red bow on the chest that exhibits rich luster and texture under bright lights. The skirt has a multi-tiered structure: an outer white apron trimmed with red piping and a giant red bow, an inner black ruffled petticoat, and a vibrant red pleated skirt at the base. This classic red-white-black tricolor scheme perfectly resonates with the character's vibrant stage presence.
As a cosplayer, I paid great attention to styling details. For the lower half, I chose opaque white Stockings paired with black round-toe Mary Janes, which flatter the leg lines beautifully—in shots lifting the skirt, the contrast between the white tights and black shoes is exceptionally striking. In the crowded and bustling environment of an anime convention, keeping the wig smooth and the outfit wrinkle-free is no easy feat. Especially where indoor air conditioning was lacking, this long-sleeved Maid outfit combined with the thick wig felt quite stuffy, but to present the best condition for photographers and audiences, every bit of effort was essential.
Regarding this shoot, the lighting setup on site was phenomenal. The photographer utilized high-powered professional strobes paired with large softboxes. This direct strong lighting method produced the distinct high-sharpness and high-contrast texture typical of top-tier convention photography. Shadows cast across the concrete floor behind me made the main subject pop instantly. Of course, this lighting places high demands on makeup; without dimensional foundation and eye contouring, facial features can easily look flat under intense light. Therefore, I specifically intensified the eye makeup details to accentuate the character's subtly tsundere gaze.
In terms of posing, I communicated with the photographer to try various combinations: playful two-handed finger hearts, poking my cheek cutely, classic peace signs, and holding the tiered skirt for a graceful curtsy. These varied poses captured the character's multifaceted personality. In particular, full-body shots holding the skirt hem perfectly showcased the layering of the Maid outfit and the classic visual harmony of white Stockings paired with Mary Janes. The black glasses also served as a great accessory, adding a touch of intellectual coolness to an otherwise energetic look.
For post-processing, I personally participated in color grading. Focusing on the red, black, and white tricolor balance, I enhanced the saturation of the red bow and hair color while preventing the black fabric from crushing into flat blacks, preserving fabric wrinkles and textures as much as possible. After fine-tuning the highlight-to-shadow transitions, the subject's overall atmospheric presence became much more luminous. Every convention shoot is not just a visual log for me, but a refining test of my ability to bring a character to life. Being able to wear meticulously prepared outfits and capture character-defining moments before the lens is the purest joy of doing cosplay.
