This set of Kinako's home-themed photos was shot in an indoor studio, aiming to downplay flamboyant backdrops and emphasize a sense of daily routine and authentic relaxation. The set featured tatami mats directly spread across the floor, with a cream-colored cloud sofa arranged in the corner. Near the wooden low table hung a little fish toy, and the corkboard on the wall was pinned with hand-drawn cards. Combined with the green plants by the window and a fruit basket, the entire frame looked like a real domestic living space rather than a photography studio. This casual setting greatly helps with character immersion, allowing one to relax quickly.
In terms of outfit selection, I paired a loose white large-neck off-the-shoulder T-shirt, a pattern highly suited for manifesting a cat's lazy, defenseless state. The collar slips slightly to reveal the neckline and shoulder contours, forming an upper-to-lower echo with the pure white over-knee stockings. The long stockings not only visually extend the leg proportions but also align perfectly with the classic elements of anime-style character styling. The red collar around the neck, paired with a golden metal bell, unintentionally jingled during the shoot, which served as an excellent rhythm prompt in actual shooting to help me enter the character's mindset faster. Due to the character's intrinsic traits, I wore a light golden long straight wig, with the strands treated for silkiness, paired with matching plush cat ears. During placement, the contours of the ear structures were intentionally adjusted slightly forward to make the cat ears fit the head shape more naturally instead of looking fake. The makeup opted for a translucent base, primarily emphasizing the agility of the gaze through blue-green colored contacts and fine eyeliner, while the blush was kept quite light, mostly to highlight the natural skin tone.
For this shoot, I attempted two different action states. The posture in the first photo uses a forward lean to simulate a cat's inviting gesture when "kneading dough," kneeling on the tatami mats while naturally leaning against the edge of the table with elbows supporting the weight, which conveys an intimate feeling. Because the T-shirt is very loose, this posture effortlessly reveals the lines of the neck and shoulders, and paired with the profile angle, it provides a beautiful visual extension. The second photo has me completely seated on the floor, cross-legged or slightly bending my knees, biting a grey striped sock in my mouth—this kind of "mischievous and naughty" feeling of being caught on the spot forms a cute contrast with the first image. A studio shoot with a relaxed style doesn't require intense dramatic tension like themed photography; on the contrary, relaxed eyes and soft limbs are the core focus. The blue fish toy by the table leg happens to serve as one of the visual focal points, adding fun to the frame.
For the lighting during the shoot, we adopted natural light streaming in from the window, supplemented by a faint side-backlighting fill. This light texture is very soft, bringing out a translucent feel when cast on the wig and white stockings, while simultaneously outlining the figure's edges to infuse the frame with an airy quality. Since tatami was used as the foreground and main scene, the composition of the yellow border lines made the figure stand out even more. Throughout the process, the photographer was incredibly patient; we constantly adjusted the placement angle of the cat tail to ensure it didn't look rigid behind me but fell naturally. Sometimes, to capture a natural look in the eyes, we would even press the shutter several times consecutively. White clothing is actually quite a test for exposure under the light, but fortunately, we controlled the highlights and preserved the fabric texture details.
The final atmosphere presented by this photo set is exactly that lazy, soft afternoon time feel I wanted. Without exaggerated styling or overly complex movements, utilizing simple home elements and appropriate facial interaction can beautifully manifest the character's approachability. The shooting experience was also exceptional, making the entire process feel as comfortable and free as being at home, capturing the ultimate essence of a white stockings portrait of an animal-eared girl enjoying her daily home life.
