The CP32 Anime Convention schedule has come to an end, and while it's still fresh, I'm sharing this Misa Amane cosplay teaser with everyone.
Although these are not completely retouched final photos yet, I am already very satisfied with the styling and atmosphere in these teaser images. To restore this classic character, a lot of details were refined in the styling this time. The blonde twin-tails paired with the iconic red hair ties are the indispensable soul. The hair strands were deliberately kept with a certain drape and natural fluffiness, so even when swinging in place or blowing in a gentle breeze, they display great layers and dynamism, perfectly framing the face along with the bangs.
For the outfit, a tube dress made of glossy black patent leather material was selected, offering a strong texture. The material reflects beautifully under the convention lights, perfectly catering to the character's slightly dark Gothic style cosplay vibe. The arm sleeves are patched with black lace trim, adding a touch of exquisiteness and subtle sexiness. The leather collar and silver crucifix necklace worn around the neck are crucial accessories that highly restore the character's setting.
For makeup, the base was kept sheer and natural, with pinkish-red eye makeup paired with a matching lip color, making the gaze look both innocent and slightly wicked. I specifically emphasized the blended red eyeshadow and reddish-brown eyeliner to neutralize the dullness brought by the all-black outfit. The contact lenses were also quite comfortable, allowing me to wear them all day at the venue without feeling dry. The black nails were painted pure black, appearing exceptionally powerful when paired with the overall look.
The props this time were mainly that black notebook with metal decorations in hand and a white pen. Holding them to strike various poses before the lensâsuch as quietly cradling and looking through it, or crouching down to make a preparatory postureâmakes it very easy to be drawn into the character's scenario. Especially combined with the crouching posture in Image 4, it holds a strong narrative tension.
The CP32 venue was truly packed with people. I'm very grateful for the photographer's professional guidance and the lighting coordination on site to capture these story-rich images in such a noisy environment. The ambient light at the venue was actually quite complex with many illuminations and stray lights, but utilizing a large aperture to blur the background, plus the fill light from the softbox on the right, fully brought out the character's presence. Instead, the rows of ceiling lights in the background created a just-right sense of gorgeousness and loneliness.
This teaser set includes both dynamic snapshots and static close-ups. Like the second image quietly cradling the notebook, or the third image flashing a peace sign, they all try to express the character's gap moeâsometimes cold, sometimes playful. During the shoot, I communicated a lot with the photographer about our understanding of the character's personality, hoping to truly convey her independent character traits through the lens language.
Actually, many friends recognized the character right on site, and everyone was genuinely so enthusiastic. The joy of an anime convention lies not only in taking great photos but also in meeting many friends who share the same love for this work; this offline exchange atmosphere is truly irreplaceable.
However, a teaser is after all just a teaser. Considering that the post-production texture of many details still needs adjustmentâsuch as clearing up background clutter and refining the costume highlightsâI will share a more complete finished photo with everyone once the final photos are fully retouched. The shooting experience this time was highly enjoyable, and it allowed my understanding of this character to go a bit deeper.
