The theme of this photoshoot is Sakiko Toyokawa and Mutsumi Wakaba in an Arknights style, and the setting of "God said, 'Let there be light.'" gave us a lot of creative space. The dark red retro room background paired with warm yellow side-lighting perfectly maxed out that doll-like exquisiteness and a slightly eerie atmosphere. I cosplayed Sakiko; this black dress paired with a mint green bow and a huge black top hat, plus the silver-white gradient treatment at the hair tips, made the overall styling very heavy-duty. The layers of the wig and accessories meant we needed to constantly adjust angles during the shoot to avoid exposing any flaws. My partner Xiaobei Lvdou's Mutsumi look was also quite brilliant; the black horns with curly hair, the exquisite bowtie, and the sitting posture perfectly matched her quiet and serene temperament.
The props used this time included a retro gramophone, antique dolls, and parchment books, details that gave the frame more narrative depth. The photographer, Juzi, handled the light and shadow wonderfully, dimming the main environmental light and preserving highlights only on the faces and props. This formed a strong contrast between light and dark, making the characters look as if they had truly stepped out of an old doll box. When composing the shots, we intentionally stayed away from the edges to make the gaze interaction between the two of us the visual focus—she looks down at the book while I lean over to gaze at her, allowing that wordless chemistry to flow naturally.
Although the dark-toned style places high demands on post-processing color grading, the texture of the raw unedited photos already pleasantly surprised us; the lace and folds on the clothes showed clear textures under the side-lighting, and the reflections on the ribbons were just right. The entire process from styling to positioning took quite a lot of time, especially ensuring that the skirt hem and hat brim didn't disrupt the balance of the frame, but the final result was completely worth all the effort. This kind of cosplay style with gothic and doll elements has always been a favorite type of mine, and being able to interpret these two characters under the Arknights theme was a highly satisfying creative experience.
