[Marisa cosplay] Touhou Project's Magician Takes Flight at Guangzhou Firefly ACG Expo

This Marisa cosplay outfit shoot at the Firefly ACG Expo was definitely one of the highlights of this summer. There were plenty of prop details overall, especially that hat with lace trim and a purple bow, which needed to be tilted at just the right angle to look best. The spiral handle of the broom and the purple tassels at the end also had substantial weight, requiring careful control when waving it to avoid hitting the skirt hem.

The lighting was wonderful on the shooting day, and photographer Master Zhang Xiaoyu was very skilled at directing poses. To capture the feeling of a Magician taking flight, we tried many jumping and single-leg balance poses. Especially for that single-leg standing shot, maintaining balance made that candid freeze-frame look incredibly vivid. As the skirt flared up, the lines of the legs and white socks were beautifully showcased, which is why I felt that shot made the perfect cover. The glass curtain wall in the background reflected tree shadows, naturally providing a refreshing ambiance that harmonized wonderfully with the character's black, white, and purple outfit.

At the venue, I also chatted with many Touhou Project fans, and everyone agreed that the hairstyle and braided details were handled quite nicely. The wig color looked fantastic under strong sunlight, but it tangled very easily; to achieve that fluffy texture, I spent quite some time styling it at the vanity table. As for this dress, aside from the dense ruffles and subtle star patterns, the most meticulous part was the small black bows on the outer apron, which needed to be ironed flat to maintain their shape.

When posing near the bushes, because the skirt was quite large and the lining could easily be stepped on, the black platform shoes provided great support. Even though the shoot was more tiring than expected—having to keep the costume neat across various jumping poses—being able to seize this opportunity to faithfully portray the character's carefree and vibrant personality was amazing. Plus, the light and shadow of sunlight filtering through the leaves onto me gave the overall tone of the photos a very pleasing quality. Looking at the final results, all the day's exhaustion completely vanished.
