The set this time was chosen inside a church building with a strong sense of history. Upon entering the doors, I was struck by the profound space and the lines formed by the oak pews. We intentionally avoided crowded periods, leaving the entire hall empty and free of people. After changing into the Mostima cosplay attire, it felt as though my aura and the sound of my footsteps had changed entirely.
For the wig part, to restore that layered look, I repeatedly adjusted the direction of the styling so that a few naturally falling hair strands could better match the character's casual yet mysterious traits. The fabric of the robe was selected with the right drape and weight, so when sitting down, the folds could spread naturally instead of looking floaty and cheap. The iconic accessory details were also handled with care, ensuring the texture remains visible even in low light. The reason I originally selected this church was because of its classic stained glass; the rich colors cast onto the ground at specific hours, forming very clear and dappled light patches.
In an indoor environment with such a high contrast, the requirements for lighting are actually very harsh. To preserve the gorgeous light and shadow cast by the stained glass overhead while preventing the face from becoming pitch black, the photographer attempted multiple metering methods. Ultimately, we decided to borrow natural light paired with a small amount of fill light, allowing the image to maintain a natural transition between light and dark. When I sat quietly in the center of the pew, a beam of skylight happened to cut right over my head. Reflected in the lens was exactly that natural, bright white halo edge, which was a very satisfying surprise. During shooting breaks, I would walk around the hall. The reddish-brown floor tiles acted like a mirror, with every step stepping into the reflection. This visual experience was extremely wondrous, as if I had placed myself inside a scroll woven by light and shadow. Closing my eyes to listen, there was only the quiet air and the occasional sound of a light breeze blowing—this immersive sense of atmosphere is perhaps the unique artistic conception the work wishes to convey.
For post-processing, we didn't do too much complex compositing, but mainly performed more precise tonal control over the light-dark relationships, strengthening the theme of loneliness. Retaining the steady film texture and dark-toned color temperature of the raw images can make the entire photo appear more narrative-driven. Producing this photo set was inherently a way to clear my mind; in a fast-paced life, having the chance to stop my footsteps and feel the character's arc in a sacred space is wonderful. Whether it's the understanding of the character or the control over the lens, every attempt paves the way for the next. When packing up props after the shoot, watching the final rays of the setting sun submerge into the colored window patterns, I thought to myself that this serenity is the best background color for this cosplay. Not just for the character, but this silence also allows everyone involved to settle down and find their own piece of tranquility. Hopefully, this record serves as a meaningful piece of my Cosplayer's daily life sharing.
