For this photo titled "The Most Bunny-Flavored Shot," I wanted to share how visual elements can recreate this character's unique vitality and spiritual agility. On the day of the shoot, the first element decided upon was the large pair of upright ears on top of the head. To keep the ears from looking overly bulky, we performed multiple internal paddings and shaping tests, finally achieving a look that was upright while retaining a realistic fur texture. For makeup, I chose ice-blue contact lenses highly faithful to the character design, paired with a clean, lightweight base and defined eyeliner to make the eyes look clear, determined, and subtly expectant.
The costume design is the backbone of the overall look. The jacket uses a black composite fabric with excellent reflectivity, forming sharp, clean highlight lines under the studio lighting rig. To prevent solid black from feeling too dull, a voluminous mint-blue gradient ruffle was added at the collar, along with a deep brown leather choker hugging the neck. The blue-green gemstone accessory at the center of the collar serves as the visual anchor for the upper body. The inner white shirt was styled with a looser collar, creating a tactile contrast between the soft inner layer and the stiff jacket. To ensure overall visual harmony, I wore several acrylic geometric rings in matching shades on my fingers; though subtle, these small color blocks tied together seamlessly with the blue accents of the outfit when making a peace sign.
The bunny plushie held in my left hand was also an integral part of this complete look. The plushie has a soft, fuzzy texture and wears a matching blue-and-black leather collar identical to the cosplayer's outfit. During studio shooting, this prop not only balanced the negative space on the left side of the frame but also fostered an endearing interactive dynamic with the model's expression. A solid blue backdrop heavily tests character color coordination, but fortunately, selecting a costume with black and mint-blue trims ensured the colors neither blended into the background nor looked overly jarring.
During the shoot, we adjusted the light positions several times, ultimately using a softbox alongside the key light to evenly illuminate the model's face while preserving the sleek specular highlights of the leather jacket. Since the composition elements were relatively minimalist (the person, the bunny, and the background color), body language couldn't be overly stiff. When freezing this frame, I leaned forward slightly, cradling the plushie with my left hand while raising my right hand in a relaxed V-sign to break any visual monotony from the solid background. Wearing this styling for hours with the secured ears and choker did bring considerable weight and warmth, but seeing the character's signature stubborn resolve and vibrant agility captured in the final shot made it completely worthwhile.
For wig styling, I further customized the raw base wig, trimming the bangs just above the brows and eyes to ensure a clear interplay between the blue eyes and the hairstyle. The long side hair was styled with wax to add moderate layering and subtle curls, giving it an airy feel rather than sticking flat against the cheeks. While waiting between shots, I touched up makeup and adjusted ear placement repeatedly to ensure raising my hands wouldn't catch the wig on the leather collar. Furthermore, solid background shots often place a heavy burden on post-processing, but with ample lighting and precise keying during the shoot, we decided to minimize redundant editing—retaining the glossy sheen of the leather and the natural fold textures of the fabric, prioritizing authenticity in this Anime-style photography.
From the beginning, I didn't want this to feel like a fantasy character detached from reality, but rather to show viewers that a character can be authentically realized through tangible textures and detailed accessories. Whether it was the fabric density of the bow or the rounded thickness of the rings, numerous comparisons were made in advance. With this look, I hoped to showcase her duality of gentleness and dependability as a leader, choosing a style that blends elegance with crisp professionalism to honor the character's core traits alongside my personal interpretation. Finally being able to effortlessly present that lively bunny moment before the lens was thanks to the constant guidance and encouragement of my photographer on set, who helped me get into character quickly against a simple backdrop to capture that expressive emotion in the eyes. It was a thoroughly enjoyable shooting experience and a deep test of styling details.
