[Chisa Cosplay] Wuthering Waves on a Rainy Day — Sailor Uniform with Greatsword Standing Under the Ferris Wheel

Overcast sky and drizzling weather are actually quite a challenge for a rainy day outdoor shoot, but coincidentally, this gray-and-white toned lighting is exceptionally suited for depicting visuals with a slightly cold and industrial atmosphere. The location chosen for this cosplay photography session was an elevated urban platform with a massive white Ferris Wheel framework behind it and dark-toned buildings visible in the distance. Overcast weather with thick cloud cover and lack of direct sunlight unified the entire photo set's color scheme into low-saturation cool tones, creating a fantastic contrast with the dark blue, black-and-white uniform as well as bright red hair ribbons and weapon.

For clothing, a modified sailor uniform was paired with a loose jacket, featuring distressed cuff and hem detailing to add a touch of streetwise and combat-ready casualness. The red neckerchief on the chest and long red ribbons atop the head serve as visual focal points, pairing comfortably in color harmony with the red, black, and gold greatsword. Footwear consists of thick-soled black uniform shoes worn with black over-the-knee socks, giving the overall silhouette a crisp high school girl inspired look. As for props, that weapon is huge in volume and quite heavy in hand, but had to be held steady for optimal shooting results. It was actually pretty exhausting during the shoot because I had to climb onto a concrete pedestal; the concrete surface was slippery on a rainy day, making it tricky to keep balance while holding a greatsword. The photographer was great at capturing angles, using tilted dynamic compositions for several shots that stretched the Ferris Wheel's giant steel framework to evoke a sense of pressure and tension, reminiscent of comic book paneling.

My personal favorite is the shot standing straight upright on the pedestal with the whole body captured in frame and weapon held to the side—leg lines and fit of the over-the-knee socks were just right, while my gaze had to cool down without any smile to match the ambiance of this weather and setting. Another shot holding a handbag feels more like a daily outing, resembling a brief moment of tranquility right after retreating from a mission. Actually, the most troublesome part of shooting outdoors in rain is protecting equipment and wigs; although wind speed wasn't high, fine drizzle made the wig wet and heavy, rendering frequent styling impossible and leaving us to slightly retouch water spots in post-production. Yet it is precisely this authentic environment that gives the final photoshoot a more cinematic feel and richer narrative depth than studio work.

Arranging props and adjusting poses took considerable time, especially for the seated pose—achieving natural yet extended leg lines while leaning the greatsword diagonally without blocking the face. After trying several times, the final selected angle indeed turned out better than expected. The character's overall demeanor conveys a capable, quiet, yet highly action-oriented presence, which, combined with this outfit and weapon, aims to recreate the atmosphere of walking alone in a gloomy city. By the time shooting wrapped up, dusk had fallen; although my shoes were soaked through, seeing the visual texture in playback made braving the rain feel completely worth it.
