For this shoot, the Phrolova look overall adopted a very classic dark Gothic style cosplay red-and-black color palette. For Cosplay makeup, a matte base was chosen to emphasize a serene, cold aura. Under light and shadow, the mint green hair actually exhibits a very delicate gradient layer, which, paired with the iconic black eyepatch, forms a strong visual color contrast that closely matches the character's mysterious and distant vibe.
Costume details were the main highlight of this preparation. The corset structure of the upper body is crafted with great three-dimensionality, cinching the silhouette nicely through black lacing combined with deep red tube top stitching. Black sheer gauze was selected for the sleeves, capturing that airy, flowing feel perfectly when moving around. What satisfied me most was the design of the skirt hem: not only is tattered black lace layered over a red base, but the edges were also given a subtle singed effect as if scorched by dark flames, which, along with tiny red luminous points dotting inside the skirt, creates an incredible ambiance in dim lighting. The black rose choker around the neck is also a clever little accent, echoing the red rose atop the hollow metal scepter held in hand.
The scene for this shoot was set in front of a massive Gothic arched flower window. The photographer cleverly utilized rim light directly from behind to outline hair strands and contours, while red side-lighting made the entire dress texture appear even richer and deeper. The atmospheric smoke floating through the frame blended seamlessly with the lighting effects, making those red light motes seem as though they were drifting in midair. As for props, the intricately designed metal scepter felt quite heavy to hold, but it helped stabilize my center of gravity during posing, enhancing the visual tension of my movements for this Anime-style photography set.
Huge thanks to photographer 玉折 (Yuzhe) for patient guidance and candid captures, precisely catching my expressions whether looking down or raising my gaze. Although this look included countless accessories—taking quite a bit of time just putting on layers and adjusting props—seeing the final photos perfectly convey that languid yet commanding atmosphere made all the preparation feel completely worthwhile. The hardcore styling combined with storytelling-rich lighting elevated the completion of this Wuthering Waves cosplay piece right to the intended effect.
