Bringing Kinomoto Sakura's Ice and Snow Angel version to the Chengdu Worldline Convention truly made me experience what it means for beauty and weight to coexist. The layering of this outfit is exceptionally strong, starting with a skin-toned base underneath, layered outside with multiple layers of light blue organza and chiffon, while the skirt hem edges feature petal-like gradient treatment, making it look extraordinarily graceful when walking. To recreate the texture of ice and snow, plenty of transparent acrylic stars and crystal decorations were added to the skirt hem, refracting extraordinarily well under the outdoor lighting of the convention; even the photographers said it's super photogenic.
The white upper body portion utilized relatively stiff and crisp fabric to support the silhouette, and the golden crown pattern at the waist alongside the three-dimensional petals on the chest were meticulously sewn on, packed with details. What gave me the biggest headache were those diamond-shaped rhinestone decorations on the legs; to ensure they wouldn't fall off while walking around at the convention, I used specialized fabric glue to fix them piece by piece, paying careful attention to the spacing between arrangements. Although time-consuming, wearing them paired with skin-toned Stockings delivered an absolutely stunning overall visual effect, elongating the leg lines and adding a touch of exquisite brilliance.
The Star Wand prop is the highlight this time. For lightness and high fidelity, the wing sections were carved and polished using EVA foam, the blue star in the middle is a light-transmitting acrylic plate, and the gold painting along the edges was revised several times to minimize brushstroke feel. There were truly an overwhelming number of people on the day of the convention; the venue side at Chengdu Worldline is very massive, but it couldn't stem everyone's enthusiasm. Because the dress features a long train, I had to be extremely careful navigating through crowds, terrified of someone stepping on it, though thankfully I brought a black folding ladder.
I especially love those photo sets sitting on the ladder. Because the skirt is relatively short, sitting down happens to completely showcase the skirt hem's fluffiness while naturally revealing leg lines. I deliberately adjusted the pose of holding the magic wand, resting it diagonally at my side so it wouldn't obscure facial makeup while capturing that magical girl's agile liveliness. To fit the setting of this Ice and Snow Angel, my gaze intentionally maintained a cool, aloof, and focused state, presenting a slight contrast with the energetic Sakura everyone is usually familiar with.
In terms of makeup, to fit the 2D anime feel, I specifically wore a light golden wig and trimmed blunt bangs. The eye makeup utilized an orange-pink tone eyeshadow base, paired with prominent false eyelashes and light-colored circle lenses, making the eyes look larger and rounder while preserving the character's innocent feel. The base makeup chose a relatively pale and matte foundation because under outdoor lighting, even slight reflection would make the makeup look dirty.
There are plenty of set designs at the Chengdu Worldline convention site, but there are also simple plazas like this; utilizing this clean floor tile background helps better highlight the character's costume colors. The black folding ladder is genuinely a convention artifact, convenient for adjusting shooting heights. When using the ladder as a prop, I supported the edges with both hands, holding the Star Wand horizontally in front of me, while the photographer shot from a slightly lower angle. This not only avoided cluttered crowds in the background but also made the golden crown pattern at the waist of the dress look exceptionally three-dimensional.
Actually, the happiest part of cosplaying this outfit was being able to meet many fellow fans on-site. Quite a few people holding cameras ran over asking if they could take photos; everyone was very polite and would exchange tips on how to pose better. Although walking around the exhibition hall all day wearing this outfit is truly exhausting, and the wig plus headpiece carried some weight, seeing those clear and translucent return photos in the camera instantly made all the preliminary preparations and convention-day fatigue completely worth it. Especially seeing sunlight streaming through the tulle onto the ground, it genuinely felt like magic descending into reality.
