Today, this set of Dyadia photos finally meets everyone. There is truly so much worth discussing in detail regarding the design of this outfit. The combination of the red and golden totems on the outer coat creates a very strong visual impact, with every single line following a specific direction. The large, wide sleeves carry great tension during shooting, but they are indeed quite heavy, requiring extra strength to control the angle of the arms when moving, otherwise it easily looks sluggish. The collar design of the white inner shirt has a rich sense of layering, and the blue-and-black color-blocking details are recreated remarkably well. To make the overall styling more three-dimensional, I also specially adjusted the wrinkles of the collar. In terms of costume materials, the outer coat selected a fabric with a certain thickness and wrinkle resistance, maintaining its silhouette during large movements. The hidden patterns on the inner side of the cuffs exhibit a faint reflection under illumination, something we paid special attention to when selecting the costume.
This cyan-green wig was a massive project. To make the hair strands look like they have that floating, lightweight feel, we used a lot of hair gel and styling spray during styling, and coordinated with a fan during the shoot to create dynamic effects. Red hair accessories dotted the top of the head, increasing the character's recognizability. In terms of makeup, the purple circle lenses and red-pinkish eye makeup were meant to fit the character's slightly cunning and agile vibe, with the outer corners of the eyes slightly elongated to look softer and more delicate.
Those two floating little spirits in the frame were added during post-processing. The translucent blue one on the left and the plump orange-red one on the right added a lot of fantastical color to the entire frame. To match them, I tried my best during the shoot to portray a state of interacting with them; the coordination of gaze and gestures needed to be conceived in my mind beforehand. In terms of props, although it looks mainly like post-processing special effects in the pictures, on-site our requirements for action positioning were actually very high. For instance, when opening both hands wide, the height and orientation of the palms were particular; to make the post-processing compositing more natural, I even specially imagined the weight and position of those two little spirits.
This time, we chose an ancient-style courtyard where sunlight filtered through leaves onto the water surface, shimmering with ripples. Sitting by the stone bridge, opening arms wide to display the wide sleeves, the water surface reflected the colors of the outfit, resulting in very natural light and shadow effects. The white over-the-knee Stockings formed a sharp contrast with the red outer coat, also increasing the visual sense of extension in the composition. The white over-the-knee Stockings tend to slip during large movements, so I used special anti-slip stickers to ensure the best condition is maintained throughout the shoot. During filming, we paid special attention to the angle of the light, utilizing side-backlighting to outline the edges of the wig and costume, making the subject pop out from the background.
In post-processing, we tried our best to retain some mottled sunlight feel, avoiding making the frame look too rigid. The colors leaned towards saturation, highlighting the contrast of red, green, and blue, while adding some soft light and bokeh effects to build that dreamy atmosphere. The intensity of the special effects was controlled with restraint, primarily to set off the character's own expressive power. This shoot tested not only physical stamina, but also the capture of the character's demeanor. I practiced her iconic smile and gaze many times in front of the mirror. The on-site photographer also provided a lot of guidance, such as how to adjust the chin's angle to make the face shape look better, and how to utilize arm extension to elongate body lines.
Overall, a lot of thought went into the color matching and scene integration of this photo set. The classic color scheme of red, green, and blue stands out exceptionally well against the ancient-style background, retaining the character's 2D anime attributes while blending into the natural beauty of reality. The entire shooting process, from preliminary costume fitting and wig styling to on-site light-and-shadow coordination, underwent repeated communication and adjustments. Hopefully, sharing these details allows everyone to understand this cosplay better and also witness the effort we put into recreating the character.
