The moment I received this Barbara costume, my immediate thought was to take it outdoors for a proper photoshoot. The outfit itself features phenomenal layering: the outer layer is a white petal-shaped skirt hem, while the inner lining is a navy blue pleated skirt adorned with delicate, light-colored patterns. To support such elaborate volume, I wore a petticoat underneath and cinched the corset waist tightly; although it slightly restricted my mobility, the resulting silhouette was undeniably gorgeous once on.
I began styling the wig a full week in advance, choosing a pale blonde long wavy wig sculpted into voluminous, airy twintails. The miniature navy blue hat with a golden cross atop the crown was actually assembled and glued piece by piece onto a headband using hot glue. It was exceptionally windy on the shooting day, and I was terrified the hair accessory would blow away, so I lined the inner clips with anti-slip pads beforehand. The wig fibers tend to frizz easily, so I used plenty of smoothing spray and hair wax to lock the shape in before heading out; although the gusts still tousled it slightly, that effortless flutter actually brought the Anime girl persona to life with greater vitality.
For the makeup, I opted for a matte base because the pure white fabric easily causes glare under natural sunlight, and a matte finish keeps the skin texture looking impeccably clean. The eye makeup was built on a cool pink-blue base paired with baby blue colored contacts, extending the eyeliner subtly outward to capture Barbara's signature gentle, slightly melancholic gaze. We staged the shoot against the silver-gray facade of a contemporary building, where the cold, rigid architectural lines formed a striking visual dialogue with the soft blue-and-white ruffles of my gown.
In terms of posing, lifting the skirt hem was where I invested the most effort. To make the skirt billow like blooming flower petals, my wrists had to exert suspended force while my fingers maintained an elegant, graceful curve without stiffening. I kept twirling and pacing on-site to capture the fleeting moments when the skirt flared upward. While my arms and shoulders grew sore from sustaining the poses, seeing the dynamic, flowing arcs on the camera display made every second worthwhile. The blue lining of the skirt and the white Stockings pantyhose looked wonderful under the sunlight, as the natural illumination cleanly accentuated every textile grain and subtle jacquard pattern.
Throughout the session, my state of mind gradually relaxed. I felt a bit guarded in front of the lens initially, but as my body language opened up, I organically settled into the character's rhythm. For post-processing, I deliberately preserved the garment's authentic blue-and-white cool tones without slapping on heavy filters, merely lifting facial shadows slightly to boost overall translucency. The photographer's candid captures were brilliant—many dynamic in-between moments carried far more vitality than rigid posing. Bringing the garment's intricate details and dynamic motion to life so seamlessly made this an incredibly fulfilling Genshin Impact cosplay experience.
