The theme for this Ninghai shoot was set around 'Cloud Wandering Mountain and Sea', infusing panda motifs to capture a serene harmony between humanity and nature. I prepared two distinct coordinates. The first was a white-and-purple Chinese-style blouse paired with black shorts, topped with panda-ear hair accessories and slouchy white socks for a lively, adorable charm. The second featured an altered purple-and-gold cheongsam embroidered with dragon motifs across the skirt, layered beneath a white long coat with a plush faux-fur collar and finished with over-the-knee black Stockings. The sheer finish of these Stockings caught subtle luminous highlights under the sun, cleanly accentuating leg lines. Our locations spanned bamboo forests and classical Chinese gardens. Real giant pandas lived within the bamboo grove, so framing both of us within the same shot took meticulous angle hunting. Because pandas are living animals with unpredictable movements and the dappled sunlight through bamboo leaves was rather busy, we leaned into wide apertures to blur distracting background clutter while using foreground bamboo leaves to introduce layered framing depth. When shooting the cheongsam look in the garden, the stone bridge and water reflections provided superb natural bounce light. However, temperatures were quite high that day; wearing the fur-trimmed coat caused me to break into a sweat in no time, and the stiffened collar of the cheongsam demanded keeping my back rigidly straight to preserve poised elegance—a genuine test of physical endurance. For props, we prepared panda plushies in varied sizes. When holding the plushie in the cheongsam, arm placement had to be managed carefully to avoid obscuring the expansive dragon embroidery on the gown, while using the visual line of the black Stockings to elongate overall proportions. In one shot seated on a wooden chair, holding a bamboo sprig while recalibrating facial expressions required projecting a gaze that was both gentle and faithful to her spirited persona, all while managing leg angles to prevent the high slit from revealing too much—holding character before the lens was no simple task. The entire shoot was fast-paced and thoroughly enjoyable; not only did we achieve a high-caliber cosplay gallery, but observing the giant pandas up close made it a truly memorable experience.
