[Nangong Yu Cosplay] Zenless Zone Zero Delusional Angel: The Joy and Pain of an 8-Pound Hammer

Walking into the studio holding this 8-pound sledgehammer, the first step wasn't finding camera angles, but lifting it up for shoulder press test reps. When crafting weapons, prop artists definitely don't factor in the physical drain imposed on the cosplayer—let alone the leverage torque at the hammer's tip. Shift your grip point even slightly off-center, and you're essentially performing squats, bicep curls, and shoulder presses all at once. The moment I picked it up, I froze in disbelief, muttering 'I'm totally done for'—a genuine realization rather than an exaggeration.

Faced with a color scheme blending white, pink, black, and mint green before shooting this Fantasy outfit, I poured plenty of thought into makeup and styling. The Anime red eyes contact lenses I wore this time had a large diameter and excellent light translucency, which, along with sculpted eyeshadow and aegyo sal, kept my eyes vibrant under various light sources. The wig was styled into black-and-pink spliced twintails; with volume at both sides of the crown accented by pink and mint green bows, balancing visual gravity became paramount. I personally adored the black cat ornament on the bowtie—featuring sparkling green eyes that added a playful little-demon touch to the overall cuteness.

The studio set for this shoot was super interesting—instead of a standard monochrome backdrop, it was arranged as an industrial band rehearsal room. Behind stood a drum kit, retro telephone, iron frame supports, and a flickering vintage CRT television, with an electric guitar and massive industrial fan tucked into corners. Cyan-blue and pink-purple ambient lights on set were incredibly effective, mirroring my costume colors perfectly. As the camera pulled into medium or full-body shots, light hitting the fabric textures immediately brought out the tension of a 2D character stepping into reality.

Posing was sheer physical labor. Holding that star-patterned black sphere hammer in one hand meant balancing the white rigid wing prop on the other arm. Rigid props exert heavy joint pressure—whether kneeling on one knee or standing with a twisted torso as in the shots, you must engage your core while bracing shoulders and arms to 'hold up' these weighted pieces. Slacking off even a bit causes prop angles to sag, stripping away that sharp dynamic momentum. As for the handheld black cat mini-prop, it served as a comfortable modifier—switching hands when tired allowed me to make playful gestures to relax facial expressions for a quick Cosplay backstage photo mood.

Though maneuvering back and forth was exhausting—sweating while keeping makeup intact—seeing the character's lofty, expressive aura preserved in final shots made every hardship worth it. Pre-shoot prep and post-production are much the same; intricate, highly layered costumes intensely test posture and movement coordination. If stamina drops, the visuals quickly reflect a sluggish fatigue. Capitalizing on neon lights and reflector boards on set, the resulting images turned out deeply textured—special thanks to my partner controlling the set and the friend managing loose hair strands.

Ultimately, everyone holds a unique understanding of their favorite character, but choosing to recreate such maximalist designs means bringing her sharp presence into the lens. Though complaining about being tortured by an 8-pound hammer all afternoon, through the exhaustion and posture tweaks, you always capture that one perfect moment where everything aligns.
