This time, the Admiral Nakhimov styling for the Azur Lane Cool Festival made many new attempts in materials and visual effects. A lot of effort went into starting from the wig trimming; the mint green tone required frequent touch-ups to maintain that clear texture, and the bangs on the forehead were trimmed into relatively shattered layers, just covering the eyebrows. The cat ear accessories on the head chose a black-and-yellow color-blocking match, with edge treatments carrying a slight mechanical feel.
The clothing part tested details the most. The top is made of a black glossy material, with a halterneck design combined with hollow-out and mesh splicing on the chest, giving it a functional feel visually. To secure these straps well, a lot of anti-slip tape was used on site, plus the glossy material itself doesn't absorb sweat, so touch-ups and state adjustments were needed at any time during shooting breaks. The black choker on the neck and half-finger gloves were also matching; the leather of the long gloves is relatively soft and won't affect wrist movement.
The lower body was matched with a bright orange glossy skirt (glossy skirt), a material that reflects light strongly under the lighting, just forming a contrast with the red-and-white checkerboard background of the Azur Lane Cool Festival booth. The wrinkles of the skirt hem needed to be smoothed out by hand before going on stage, otherwise, there would be patches of creases when photographed. The black plush tail behind was fixed via an invisible belt, and the amplitude needed to be controlled when moving, otherwise it easily tangled with the over-the-knee boots on the legs.
These over-the-knee boots were the most time-consuming item to wear in the overall styling. The black glossy material combined with orange-white stripes and cross straps on the side required pulling up slowly when wearing to ensure a fit to the leg shape. The letter print on the boots is very clear; because the boots are relatively tight, the center of gravity needed to be adjusted slightly backward when standing to maintain a natural cat-claw gesture in front of the lens.
The trophy held in the second photo was awarded by the organizers. At that time, standing in front of the red-and-white grid background board, the background was full of those yellow cartoon characters. Holding the trophy and posing with cat claws was suggested by the on-site photographer, and the effect of the finished photos is indeed good, combining the character's combat vibe with the relaxed atmosphere of the scene.
The booth layout of the entire Cool Festival was very attentive, with red-and-white background boards plus cartoon patterns, which fit the theme of this event very well. The lighting on site was relatively complex, with top light plus side lighting, making the control of reflections on the glossy material a challenge, and the photographer's camera positions were also adjusted several times. From taking selfies with a mobile phone to holding the trophy, every freeze-frame had to ensure action tension and gaze coherence, and the focal point of the gaze was also adjusted according to the characteristics of the amber contact lenses.
Many fellow fans came over to take photos together on site. The recognition of this outfit is indeed very high, and the color contrast between the green hair and the orange skirt is very eye-catching in the crowd. Although wearing this outfit for a day made my waist and ankles a bit sore, seeing the light-and-shadow texture and skin edge transitions in the finished photos made polishing these details feel worth it. The air conditioning at this event was very sufficient, and wearing the glossy material wasn't as uncomfortable as imagined. From trial makeup to on-site photos, the whole process gained deeper experience in the interaction between glossy materials and light. This time, more cat elements were added to the action design, such as the bending of finger joints and the swinging amplitude of the tail, hoping to make these dynamics more natural in future shoots. During rest breaks in the backstage, I also exchanged maintenance tips for glossy clothes with other cosplayers, which was very beneficial. Looking forward to bringing more detail improvements in the next convention and continuing to polish the restoration degree.
